Gareth Southgate believes Phil Foden is reducing England’s reliance on Harry Kane for goals as he savoured the way he has more scorers than before.
Foden, who opened his England account with a brace against Iceland in November, could be set to start as a winger against Albania on Sunday.
Southgate is without a host of attacking players, with Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish, Danny Ings, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes all injured.
Kane, who was rested for Thursday's 5-0 win over San Marino, will return but Southgate is heartened by the number of other players who have the capacity to find the net as he urged his midfielders and wingers to carry on scoring.
“Phil is very exciting,” he said. “He has the skills to receive under pressure and the movement of his body to take players out of the game with his tight control. He has a lovely range of passing and a disguised pass.
“What has impressed me most is he has a real eye for goal and a hunger to score. From attacking midfield or a wide position, it’s important players chip in with goals. You need goals from different areas.”
“About 12 months ago, when we named a squad outside of Harry, Raheem [Sterling] and Marcus there were very few goalscorers for England and over that period we have been able to name players and those goal tallies are ticking over. Phil has scored for England and Mason [Mount] and Jesse [Lingard].”
Mount has been used as a forward for Chelsea by Thomas Tuchel but Southgate could deploy him as a midfielder.

“That deeper position is one that Mason doesn’t really play at his club but I think it is possible for him,” he said. “He is a very intelligent player, can play 4, 8 or 10 and I think he can adapt as required.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck twice against San Marino to double his England tally and Southgate likes his more prolific streak. “The difference has been goals,” he said. “His link play has always been good but until the last 18 months, he wasn’t finishing those chances.”
Luke Shaw could win a first England cap since 2018 after excelling for Manchester United and Southgate said: “He doesn’t need to do anything differently. First and foremost, Luke is a good defender.
"He is good to defend against one on one and he is getting better at covering his centre-backs.
“It has been great to see him playing on the front foot with his defending and being really ambitious with his attacking. He looks as if physically he is in a good condition to drive forward. There has never been any doubt in our mind of Luke’s quality. He has suffered from injuries.”
Southgate has the option of picking a back four from the Manchester clubs, with United’s Shaw and Harry Maguire and City’s John Stones and Kyle Walker and he said: “That cohesion between units on the field is always helpful. When you don’t have a long time to work together as a team those edges can be decisive.”

It's up to you to go green
Nils El Accad, chief executive and owner of Organic Foods and Café, says going green is about “lifestyle and attitude” rather than a “money change”; people need to plan ahead to fill water bottles in advance and take their own bags to the supermarket, he says.
“People always want someone else to do the work; it doesn’t work like that,” he adds. “The first step: you have to consciously make that decision and change.”
When he gets a takeaway, says Mr El Accad, he takes his own glass jars instead of accepting disposable aluminium containers, paper napkins and plastic tubs, cutlery and bags from restaurants.
He also plants his own crops and herbs at home and at the Sheikh Zayed store, from basil and rosemary to beans, squashes and papayas. “If you’re going to water anything, better it be tomatoes and cucumbers, something edible, than grass,” he says.
“All this throwaway plastic - cups, bottles, forks - has to go first,” says Mr El Accad, who has banned all disposable straws, whether plastic or even paper, from the café chain.
One of the latest changes he has implemented at his stores is to offer refills of liquid laundry detergent, to save plastic. The two brands Organic Foods stocks, Organic Larder and Sonnett, are both “triple-certified - you could eat the product”.
The Organic Larder detergent will soon be delivered in 200-litre metal oil drums before being decanted into 20-litre containers in-store.
Customers can refill their bottles at least 30 times before they start to degrade, he says. Organic Larder costs Dh35.75 for one litre and Dh62 for 2.75 litres and refills will cost 15 to 20 per cent less, Mr El Accad says.
But while there are savings to be had, going green tends to come with upfront costs and extra work and planning. Are we ready to refill bottles rather than throw them away? “You have to change,” says Mr El Accad. “I can only make it available.”

Who was Alfred Nobel?

It’ll be summer in the city as car show tries to move with the times
If 2008 was the year that rocked Detroit, 2019 will be when Motor City gives its annual car extravaganza a revamp that aims to move with the times.
A major change is that this week's North American International Auto Show will be the last to be held in January, after which the event will switch to June.
The new date, organisers said, will allow exhibitors to move vehicles and activities outside the Cobo Center's halls and into other city venues, unencumbered by cold January weather, exemplified this week by snow and ice.
In a market in which trends can easily be outpaced beyond one event, the need to do so was probably exacerbated by the decision of Germany's big three carmakers – BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi – to skip the auto show this year.
The show has long allowed car enthusiasts to sit behind the wheel of the latest models at the start of the calendar year but a more fluid car market in an online world has made sales less seasonal.
Similarly, everyday technology seems to be catching up on those whose job it is to get behind microphones and try and tempt the visiting public into making a purchase.
Although sparkly announcers clasp iPads and outline the technical gadgetry hidden beneath bonnets, people's obsession with their own smartphones often appeared to offer a more tempting distraction.
“It's maddening,” said one such worker at Nissan's stand.
The absence of some pizzazz, as well as top marques, was also noted by patrons.
“It looks like there are a few less cars this year,” one annual attendee said of this year's exhibitors.
“I can't help but think it's easier to stay at home than to brave the snow and come here.”
