Champions League: Real Madrid's Eder Militao and Bayern Munich's Niklas Suele test positive for Covid-19

Real Madrid were dealt a blow on the eve of their Champions League group match with Inter Milan after confirming that defender defender Eder Militao has contracted coronavirus.

The Brazilian, 22, returned a positive Covid-19 test following the 4-1 La Liga win over Huesca at the weekend.

"All the other players and the technical staff from the first team, as well as all the employees of the club who work directly with them, tested negative in that same test," the Spanish club said.

"The club would like to confirm once again that everyone, with the exception of Eder Militao, tested negative in the antigen tests carried out that same morning."

According to Uefa's guidelines, Militao must return a negative test at least six hours before kick-off to be able to feature against Inter in the Spanish capital on Tuesday.

News of the Brazilian's absence adds to coach Zinedine Zidane's defensive woes with Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Odriozola and Nacho all struggling with fitness issues.

Real lost their opening game of Group B to Shakhtar Donetsk last month before drawing at Borussia Monchengladbach last week.

New of Militao's positive test coincided with a statement from Bayern Munich with the Champions League title-holders confirming their own defender Niklas Suele has also tested positive for Covid-19.

Bayern said the 25-year-old Germany centre-back had gone into home isolation on the eve of their Champions League match at Salzburg.

Suele is the second Bayern player to be pulled out of action after Serge Gnabry's false positive test in October. Gnabry has since returned.

Bayern top Group A with six points following wins over Atletico Madrid and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Six Dynamo Kiev players and five members of staff tested positive for Covid-19 before Wednesday's Champions League group game against Barcelona, the Ukrainian club said.

"Testing showed a positive result in several players of the team: Georgy Tsitaishvili, Denis Garmash, Mikkel Duelund, Alexander Karavaev, Tudor Belutse and Mykola Shaparenko," Dynamo said.

"In addition, the tests of assistant head coach Emil Karas and four representatives of the team's staff gave a positive result."

The club added that all those who had tested positive were in self-isolation and doing well.

Dynamo are third in Group G with one point, five behind leaders Barcelona, who they play in Spain on Wednesday.
