Bayern Munich defender Rafinha has apologised for dressing as an "Arab bomber" for a Halloween party, saying it was not his intention to "hurt anyone's feelings".
A pictured shared to the club's more than four million followers, since deleted, showed the Brazilian wearing a traditional khandora with head scarf and holding a cardboard box with a red sticker labelled "Vorsicht" (Attention).
The botched costume sparked an uproar on social media, and the club subsequently deleted the photo.
Instead, Bayern retweeted Rafinha's apology.
"Halloween is a scary celebration with exaggerated costumes, it was not my intention to anger anyone through my disguise or hurt someones feelings," wrote the Brazilian.
Rafinha, 33, is an important member of the Bayern squad, helping the club to six consecutive Bundesliga titles after joining from Italian club Genoa in 2011 and has four Brazil caps.
Bayern are currently second in the Bundesliga table two points behind rivals Borussia Dortmund.

The trip
Plovdiv is 150km from Sofia, with an hourly bus service taking around 2 hours and costing $16 (Dh58). The Rhodopes can be reached from Sofia in between 2-4hours.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.
