BARCELONA RATINGS: Marc-Andre ter Stegen - 5. The man who seldom concedes in La Liga shipped four – three to Benzema. Dived the other way when Benzema’s penalty made it 3-0. Not at fault for any of the goals on a horrendous night for Barcelona. Dived to save well from Asensio on 77. EPA
Jules Kounde - 4. Managed to block Rodrygo’s shot, but couldn’t stop it going into the net as Madrid went ahead. Up against it when faced with Benzema and Vinicius. His poorest game for Barcelona. AFP
Ronald Araujo - 5. Left stranded by Vinicius at the start of the second half. Headed a Raphinha cross wide on 53. Nice footwork saw him playing like a winger and he attacked twice on 53, but it was Vinicius who attracted his ire. Getty
Marcos Alonso - 4. When you play central defender for Barcelona and you go off with the score 0-3 to Real Madrid, with all three goals inside 20 minutes, it has not been a good night. The poorest in a poor defence, when Barca’s injured players were missed. Getty
Alejandro Balde - 4. Beat two men and took on Carvajal as he charged towards the Madrid goal after 31. Powerful shot on target after 51 as Barca reeled from going two behind, but often caught out of position as Madrid countered. Getty
Franck Kessie - 4. Angry words with Modric, who was impossible to mark, in the first half. But there will be anger about his unnecessary challenge to concede a penalty, which Madrid scored to make it 3-1. Taken off soon after. AFP
Sergio Busquets - 5. Without Pedri and De Jong, it was some task. Helped Barca to 61 per cent possession in the first half which Xavi was satisfied with. While the home fans were furious with Madrid’s play, Barca committed 11 fouls to Madrid’s two in the first half. AFP
Sergi Roberto - 4. Early shot on goal, but drifted as Modric was allowed to run past him with the ball and set up Benzema for the second goal. Outclassed. Getty
Gavi - 5. Got away down the right after three minutes and his ball into the box hit Alaba’s arm, with the crowd roaring for an early penalty. Booked himself. Went head-to-head with Vinicius after 27, then blew him a kiss as he wound up the Brazilian. It wasn’t Gavi who had the last laugh. Reuters
Raphinha - 5. Should have left a 30th minute ball for Lewandowski, but briefly came alive with his side 2-0 down. It wasn’t enough, nowhere near. EPA
Robert Lewandowski - 4. Too isolated. Lovely turn towards goal on 28, then floored by a knee in the back from Militao. 45th minute shot superbly saved by Courtois before Madrid counter attacked and scored. Getty
SUBS: Ansu Fati (Kessie, 61) - 4. Scored a great goal at the weekend against Elche. No impact against a far superior side. AFP
Eric Garcia (Marcos Alonso, 66) - 4. The damage was already done by the time he came on. EPA
Ferran Torres (Raphinha, 66) - 4. Poor touch as Barca sought to get a first goal. Needed to get the ball to be a danger. Didn’t. Getty
REAL MADRID RATINGS: Thibaut Courtois - 9. Made a great save to deny Lewandowski and kickstart Real Madrid’s attack that led to the opening goal. Ended the match with seven saves to preserve his clean sheet. Getty
Dani Carvajal - 6. Showed superb vision to almost pick out Rodrygo in the Barcelona penalty area halfway into the first half. Struggled whenever Balde overlapped from left-back. AFP
Eduardo Camavinga - 8. Prevented Roberto from scoring with a simple tap-in early on. Recovered well to make a last-ditch challenge to stop Raphinha from having a clear run at Courtois in the 54th minute. Getty
David Alaba - 7. Made a decent block to deny Lewandowski in the sixth minute. Lucky to have not been penalised by the referee after he handled the ball in his penalty area early in the game. Getty
Eder Militao - 8. Provided two decent blocks in the first ten minutes of the game to keep the scoreline level. Looked very assured against Lewandowski. AP
Luka Modric - 8. Showed a lot of composure to dart inside and set up Benzema for Real Madrid’s second goal. His experience was pivotal to Real's second-half dominance. EPA
Toni Kroos - 7. Played a delightful pass over the Barcelona defence to find Benzema in the 33rd minute. Never got carried away and provided adequate cover for his defenders. EPA
Federico Valverde - 7. Never stopped running and working for his team as Barcelona dominated proceedings in the first half. Proved very useful in transition in the second as Real Madrid repeatedly caught Barcelona on the counterattack. AP
Rodrygo - 7. Made an excellent run to set up Vinicius for a simple tap-in the 11 minute but his compatriot missed the ball. Failed to get there in time when he was set up by Modric. AP
Vinicius Junior - 9. Put Madrid in the lead with a well-taken close-range finish after a quick one-two with Benzema. Brought down by Kessie for Madrid’s penalty in the 57th minute. Grabbed the assist for the fourth goal with a clever layoff to Benzema. AFP
Karim Benzema - 10. Was having a quiet first half until he popped up to play a brilliant one-two with Vinicius to set him up for the opener. Sent Courtois the wrong way from the penalty spot to score his second of the day on the hour mark. Grabbed his third of the night and his second hat-trick in two games with a chipped finish in the 80th minute. EPA
SUBS: Marco Asensio (Rodrygo, 74) - N/A. Should have had an assist in the 77th minute but Benzema hit his shot high and wide. Thought he had put the game to bed but Ter Stegen pulled out a brilliant stop. AFP
