SUB: Tino Livramento (Djenepo, 84) N/A – The former Chelsea man came on to face his former employers but had little chance to make an impact. AP
CHELSEA RATINGS: Kepa Arrizabalaga 8 – Had little to do in the opening half hour but then did his job when called upon. Made two crucial saves late on to keep Chelsea in the tie. Getty Images
Reece James 6 – A solid game for James. He came close with a rasping free-kick that forced Forster to tip the ball over the bar. Scored the decisive penalty to win the tie. Getty Images
Trevoh Chalobah 8 – Won his aerial battles and was Chelsea’s most consistent defender, often showing excellent positional awareness. Contender for man of the match. AP Photo
Malang Sarr 5 – Often required Chalobah to bail him out of trouble. Was guilty of leaving too much space in front of him. Getty Images
Callum Hudson-Odoi 7 – Was busy throughout, despite playing in a deeper role. Was effective when he got forward, and had a shot saved and was lively on the right-hand side, often linking up well with Ziyech. Getty Images
Ross Barkley 6 – He was effective when winning the ball in the centre of the park, releasing others with teasing balls over the Southampton defence. Getty Images
Mateo Kovacic 7 – Often linked defence and attack by bringing the ball out of his own half. Tired late on, but he can be pleased with his shift. Getty Images
Saul Niguez 6 – Had a good header saved in the opening exchanges following a Barkley corner. The two linked up again from another corner in the second half. Came close again but couldn’t quite reach a teasing Havertz cross, and again when he sent a left-footed effort towards the top corner, only for Forster to tip round the post. Getty Images
Marcos Alonso 6 – Was often pressurised when in front of his own box, but often got himself out of trouble. When he had time on the ball, he was quick to release those ahead of him. Played deeper than usual. Getty Images
Hakim Ziyech 5 – Timed his runs forward well and came close with an effort that was blocked by Salisu. His corner was converted by Havertz for the opening goal. The two linked up in the second half again thanks to Ziyech’s defence-splitting pass. Overall though, another disappointing 90 minutes. Getty Images
Kai Havertz 7 – Looked menacing cutting in from the left hand side. He gave Chelsea the lead when he headed home Ziyech’s corner in a crowded box before half time. He had earlier come close by forcing Forster into a save at the near post, and again when he couldn’t quite curl the ball into the corner. AP Photo
SUB: Mason Mount (Barkley, 68) 5 – Broke on the counter attack soon after coming on but lost possession in the final third. Missed his penalty. AP
SUB: Ben Chilwell (Ziyech, 68) 6 – Brought on at right wing-back but gave Chelsea the advantage in the shootout when he converted by sending Forster the wrong way. Getty Images

Kyle Walker-Peters 7 – Good block to deny Alonso following a Chelsea break. At the other end he was often available on the overlap. He threatened twice; first when he cut in between Sarr and Alonso; his claims for a penalty were waved away, but the loose ball fell to Armstrong to shoot, and secondly when his shot forced Arrizabalaga into the save that lead to the equaliser. Getty Images
Lyanco 7 – Started the move that lead to Southampton’s equaliser. He brought the ball down after Saul lost possession, and his pass freed Walker-Peters. Was often on hand to clear the danger for the visitors. Getty Images
Mohammed Salisu 7 – Good intervention to deny Havertz, who was looking menacing on the left, and then again to block Ziyech’s shot. Solid evening alongside Lyanco. AFP
Yan Valery 6 – Pressed well but was dispossessed in the first half as Chelsea threatened on the counter. Worked tirelessly and went down with cramp at the end. AFP
Ibrahima Diallo 6 – Picked up the first yellow card of the evening when he thwarted Kovacic. AP Photo
Stuart Armstrong 7 – Delivered a couple of free-kicks into the area but didn’t trouble the home defence. He came closer when he picked up a loose ball from Walker-Peters and forced Arrizabalaga into a low save. Enjoyed a heated battle with Barkley. Getty Images
Nathan Tella 6 – Showed his pace throughout and looked dangerous and can consider himself unlucky to be brought off. Getty Images
Moussa Djenepo 6 – Played a teasing ball into the Chelsea box to release Adam Armstrong. Later took a yellow card for the team when he scythed down Chilwell with Chelsea threatening. AP Photo
Che Adams 7 – In the right place at the right time to equalise after Arrizabalaga had denied Walker-Peters. Found pockets of space on the left. He was a nuisance and clearly a target man at set pieces. Getty Images
