Sir Alex Ferguson paid fulsome praise to Cristiano Ronaldo today after the winger completed his world record transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
The World Footballer of the Year leaves Old Trafford after six trophy-laden years and with Ferguson's blessing ringing in his ears, inking a six-year deal with Los Blancos and netting United £80 million (Dh483m) in the process.
"Cristiano has been a marvellous player for Manchester United," Ferguson said on the Premier League champions' website.
"His six years at Old Trafford have seen him develop into the best footballer in the world.
"His contribution has been a major factor in the club's success in that time and his talent, his ability to entertain and his infectious personality have enthralled fans the world over.
"Everyone here wishes him well in his future career."
The Portuguese winger enjoyed a memorable and decorated career in Manchester, winning three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as one Champions League and one Fifa Club World Cup winners' medal sandwiched among a host of personal awards.
He is the latest, but certainly most high profile, player to join the Primera Liga giants this summer, joining Kaka and Raul Albiol at El Santiago Bernabeu with Karim Benzema, Franck Ribery and David Villa also linked with a move to the Spanish capital.
