Romain Grosjean has showed the damage he suffered to one of his hands after his horrific crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The French driver, 34, was treated for burns when his Haas car was engulfed in fire, and was fortunate to escape more serious injury as the vehicle also split in two when it penetrated a steel barrier at 137mph.
Grosjean gave a thumbs-up on social media, showing the skin damage to his right hand which is now free of bandages.
He said he's now "super happy" to have the dressings off and is undergoing "loads of creaming all day long but it feels good to see it in such good shape".
He added that he's "waiting for my left hand to recover now," as that remains bandaged.
Grosjean had initially hoped he would recover enough mobility in his hands to compete in the season's finale at the Etihad Airways Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.
However, he will again be replaced by Pietro Fittipaldi, the Haas team said.
His F1 career looks to be over as he is being replaced next season at Haas.
“It is with great sadness that I will not be able to do my final race in Abu Dhabi and be with the team there,” Grosjean said.
“We’ve tried as much as we could with the doctor to recover and to repair my hand, but the risk of racing is too big for my recovery and my health. It’s one of the hardest decisions of my life, but it’s obviously one of the wisest."
