The striker Milan Baros, 30, announced his decision to quit international football after the Czechs were eliminated at the quarter-finals stage through a 1-0 loss to Portugal on Thursday. The Galatasaray player is the second-leading Czech scorer of all time with 41 goals in 93 international games. He was the top scorer, with five goals, at the 2004 Euro and also won the Champions League with Liverpool, but he has been struggling in the national team in recent years and netted just once in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. He did not score at the tournament and was repeatedly booed by fans.

The Czech Republic defender Theodor Gebre Selassie has joined Werder Bremen from Slovan Liberec on a four-year deal. Bremen's director of sport, Klaus Allofs, told the club's website: "We are happy that Theodor decided on Werder Bremen despite a number of other offers. He is a very talented right-back who confirmed our good impressions with some good performances at the European Championship." Gebre Selassie called the decision "exactly the right one".
Portugal
The Portugal striker Helder Postiga will miss their Euro 2012 semi-final after pulling a thigh muscle in the 1-0 win over the Czech Republic on Thursday. Postiga, 29, was carried off late in the opening period to be replaced by Hugo Almeida. Postiga, who scored in the 3-2 group stage win over Denmark, is "not fit to play in the semi-finals owing to a muscle strain behind the right thigh", the Portuguese Football Federation said in a statement following a scan on the injury. "We are going to do all we can to ensure we get him back." The Portugal coach Paulo Bento has not made any changes in his line-up at the finals but will now have to call upon Almeida or the youngster Nelson Oliveira, 20.
Italy
Thiago Motta is a slight doubt for Italy's quarter-final against England tomorrow because of a hamstring strain, the team doctor Enrico Castellacci said yesterday. Castellacci said the player had been able to train but they would monitor his fitness in the coming days. He said: "Motta is training with other players and we will assess him." Italy have already lost their most experienced defender, Giorgio Chiellini, to injury for the England match. Mario Balotelli was expected to be fit despite suffering a slight back problem in training.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Russian girlfriend Irina Shayk has hit back after the Israeli model Bar Refaeli criticised the Portugal star's hairstyle on Twitter. "The only thing I can think of when I watch Ronaldo is that hair gel should really be outlawed," Refaeli said on her Twitter account, where she has nearly 220,000 followers. A furious Shayk replied on her own Twitter account, saying: "Being a hater is not a cute look. Learn to love."
