DUBAI // Eoin Morgan, the England middle-order batsman, says his side are under no illusions about their standing in the world order for one-day cricket, despite their comprehensive success over Pakistan in the UAE.
So convincing have the tourists been in the limited-overs leg of their trip to the Emirates, they can consider resting senior players for today's final match, having already secured the series win.
Jade Dernbach, Tim Bresnan and Jos Buttler are the leading candidates to come into a side for whom a 4-0 series win would go some way to easing the memory of the Test whitewash they suffered here.
Given their hefty defeat in the Tests, as well as their poor record in the 50-over format in Asia, their form in Abu Dhabi and Dubai has been a surprise.
"We have had a fantastic start, but it is a case of not getting carried away with where we are and where we want to be," Morgan said.
"Where we are is No 6 in the world, and where we want to be is No 1 by the [time of] the World Cup in 2015.
"We want to be in a position where we have a strong enough side that we can go out there and say, 'We can win this World Cup'. That is where we want to be in the long term."
Morgan suffered against Pakistan's spin-bowlers in the Tests, but has tempered their threat in the shorter version to the extent he averages 51 in this ODI series to date.
"I've played a lot of subcontinent cricket, but my skill levels weren't up to scratch," Morgan said.
"I always put myself under a lot of pressure, particularly in the longer form of the game, because I haven't scored enough weight of runs, with this being in the No 1 [Test] side."
