India beat Bangladesh to win Asia Cup in Dubai: How it happened

India win off the last ball as Kedar Jadhav gets a leg bye off his pads to give India the win by three wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar edges a Mustafizur Rahman ball to Mushfiqur Rahim to go for 21. Given their 222 looked well below par at one stage, this has been a tremendous effort from Bangladesh. India are now hanging their hopes on the injured Kedar Jadhav to try and see them home. But he cannot find the singles, or does not want them with his injured hamstring. India on 215-7, needing 223 to win. The target continues to come down but India are six down with Ravindra Jadeja out for 20, caught behind off Rubel Hossain on a review. That brings the injured Kedar Jadhav back out and he and Bhuvneshwar Kumar keep the scoreboard ticking. India are 214-6, needing 223 to win. Almost a brilliant over for Bangladesh. Almost. Mustafizur Rahman concedes only one run of his first five balls. But Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes the final ball off his legs to the boundary to keep India in charge. Bangladesh need wickets and quickly. India are 210-5 chasing 223. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in the India team for his bowling, but the six he has just hit of Rubel Hossain is as good as you will ever see in a pressure situation. It lifts the tension off India and has given he and Ravindra Jadeja (20 not out) breathing space. India are 205-5 chasing 223. India need 36 more of 42 balls on 187-5. Ravindra Jadeja (15) looks as if he will be the key man to guiding India home. Bangladesh are doing what they can by keeping things tight, but realistically they must bowl out their opponents to win this. Just to complicate things further for India Kedar Jadhav has retired hurt. He was struggling with a hamstring injury and India clearly have decided to give him some recovery time, if he needs to bat again, by bringing him in. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is now in with Ravindra Jadeja and India need 56 to win off 68 balls. India 167-5 chasing 223 to win. Bangladesh just will not give up. MS Dhoni had looked assured and calm at the crease, but he edges Mustafique Rahman to Mushfiqur Rahim behind the stumps for 36 and India's lower middle order is exposed. Add in that Kedar Jadhav appears to be struggling with a hamstring problem and India are on the ropes. India are 167-5 chasing 223 and need 56 off 72 balls to win. It is going to be close Every time you think this game is over there is a twist. India look to be cruising with Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni together, but Karthik has just gone for 37 as he is trapped leg before by Mahmudullah after missing a full toss. A partnership of 54 comes to an end. Dhoni is still there on 30, but again Bangladesh have a glimmer of hope. But 84 needed by India on 139-4 with 18 overs to go. It was not really a crisis but India have two cool heads at the crease in Dinesh Karthik (27 not out) and MS Dhoni (17 not out). They have scored 22 together since coming together seven overs ago following the exit of Rohit Sharma. There is no hurry. India need 112 more to get to their target and still have more than 25 overs to go. Bangladesh are doing what they can, keeping it tight in an attempt to keep the pressure on. But India are showing no signs of cracking and this is beginning to look ominous for Bangladesh. Just as it was looking as if India were going to slowly cruise home, we have another twist. Captain Rohit Sharma is out. He is gone for 48, caught at deep square off Rubel Hossain. The whole crowd looks shocked by the dismissal, but it does open the door for Bangladesh. India still the favourites on 83-3, needing 140 more to win off 33 overs, but with with the captain gone, India look vulnerable. ____________ India are two down. Ambati Rayudu nicks Mashrafe Mortaza to Mushfique Rahim behind the stumps for just two. But India are still moving along at a fair rate. They are 57-2 after 10 overs, almost averaging a run a ball, and captain Rohit Sharma (36 off 31) is looking in great touch. Bangladesh cannot to have another hour of Sharma batting. They need to find a way to get him and fast. For the first time in the series India's opening partnership have not scored 50. It is Shikhar Dhawan who is the man to go as he is caught by Soumya Sarkar off Nazmul Islam for 15. Bangladesh needed that wicket and badly. India were going well and captain Rohit Sharma is looking in good nick on 20 not out, which includes two fours and a six. It is just one wicket, but it does give Bangladesh hope. India on 35-1 after five overs, with 223 the target. Bangladesh will know if they are to have any chance of winning they need to get rid of one of India captain Rohit Sharma or Shikhar Dhawan quickly. The openers can take the game away from an opponent quickly. Just ask Pakistan. Mehidy Hasan, who is the first Bangladesh player in an ODI to open the batting and bowling in the same match, has a boundary hit off him by both openers and 10-0 after the first over is not the start Bangladesh would have wanted India to have. 10-0 with another 213 needed in 49 overs Given they chased 237 at a canter against Pakistan in Dubai, India will be confident the Asia Cup is coming home with them as they prepare to start their chase of 223 after bowling out Bangladesh for 222. Nazmul Islam was trapped in front of the stumps off Jasprit Bumrah. He was not out, according to the umpire at least, but he was out of his ground following the delivery and he is run out. Bangladesh seem content to just nick singles and twos to try and accumulate a total to defend, with the occasional lusty blow coming from Soumya Sarkar. He is 31 not out and his mission is to try and move 213-8 in the final three overs to close to 250. ___________ Credit to India, they did not crack under the early onslaught from Bangladesh's openers and their patience is being rewarded. Kuldeep Yadav picks up his third wicket as he has Mashrafe Mortaza stumped for just 7 and Bangladesh are on 196-6 with seven overs to go. That could be the moment that decides the match. Liton Das is stumped by MS Dhoni to give Kuldeep Yadav his second wicket, the Bangladesh opener falling for 121 off 117 balls. That leaves Bangladesh on 188-6 and with their lower order now exposed this is looking good for India. So, after 40 overs Bangladesh are 178-5. The innings has stabilised since the flurry of wickets with Liton Das on 113 not out and Soumya Sarkar on 18. A big 10 overs to go. Anything less then 240 and you have to feel India are favourites. If Bangladesh can get close to 270 or above then it will put India's batsman under pressure. India have rumbled how to cope with Liton Das. Just get the 10 wickets at the other end and let the Bangladesh opener run out of partners. India are bowling well and the Bangladesh batsmen are just making bad choices. Mahmudullah the latest to fall for just four as he slogs across the line of a Kuldeep Yadav ball and he is caught on the boundary by Jasprit Bumrah. Five wickets lost in just 12 overs and 120-0 has become 151-5. Liton Das has his hundred but now he has to bat on to drag his side to near 250 to give them a chance. Four down and Bangladesh are in real trouble as Mohammad Mithun is run out for just two. But, Liton Das continues to hold the innings together and he has just reached his maiden ODI hundred, the achievement coming off 87 balls. He has scored 100 of his side's 145-4 at present and he needs to bat the 50 overs now to give his side a chance of setting India a tough score. You have to think anything shy of 250 will be too few on this Dubai wicket. Bangladesh are in serious danger of undoing their good work. From 120-0 they have slipped to 137-3, and the pressure is now falling on Liton Das (95 not out) to not only get his hundred, but bat on and hold the innings together. Mushfiqur Rahim is the latest man to go, caught for five at midweek to give Kedar Jadhav his second wicket. It was a risky shot to be playing, and with his partner at the other end well set not good shot judgement at all. As so often happens in cricket, having waited for almost 90 minutes to bat, Imrul Keyes lasts just 12 balls before he is trapped leg before by Yuzvendra Chalal for just two. Bangladesh still have Liton Das (91 not out) closing in on his first hundred, but they are in danger of letting slip a strong start. Bangladesh 128-2 after 24 overs. ______________ The opening wicket is finally broken at 120-1. It is Mehidy Hasan who goes as he caught off Kedar Jadhav for 32. But with Liton Das still flying on 88 not out at the other end, Bangladesh are still look good. Bangladesh 124-1 after 22 overs. ____________ That dropped catch by India on Liton Das is looking pretty costly. The opener is continuing to take apart the India attack and he is now on 85 off 65 balls with 10 fours and two sixes. Bangladesh are 116-0 after 20 overs and there is a serious platform for them to get a huge score that will test India's batsmen. Liton Das continues to frustrate India. He reaches his maiden one-day international half-century in the 11th over and is now 59 not out off 41 balls. He has also been given a life after being dropped, just after making his 50, as he top-edged a slog sweep but it was put down by Yuzvendra Chalal. Mehidy Hasan looks composed at the other end on 25 not out off 49 balls. We have completed 14 overs and Bangladesh are in a good position at 86-0, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Well, this is going better than last week. Seven days ago when they met in the Super Four, Bangladesh were two wickets down within five overs. This time around they have started strongly with the bat against India, and Rohit Sharma's decision to field is already looking questionable. Four boundaries and two sixes have got Liton Das to 41 off 26 balls and Mehidy Hasan is looking settled at the other end of 15 off 21. Bangladesh are 58-0 after eight overs, and India need a breakthrough to slow their opponents down. Bangladesh have begun their innings and openers Mehidy Hasan and Liton Das have successfully navigated the first two overs with the score 8-0. It has not been entirely convincing with the one boundary to come, Mehidy's off Jasprit Bumrah, coming off an outside edge. Fascinating early period here. Bangladesh need to keep wickets in hand, but must not score too slowly, while India will be anxious to get some early success to justify Rohit Sharma's decision to bowl. In a repeat of their Super Four match, Rohit Sharma has won the toss and the India captain has chosen to field against Bangladesh in Dubai. That worked out well seven days ago and Bangladesh will look to avoid a repeat of the collapse that saw them slip to 101-7 on their way to 173, a total India cantered past for the loss of two wickets. Of the six matches in Dubai so far only once, when India beat Hong Kong, has the side batting first triumphed. Afghanistan do get a moral win for earning a tie with India after batting first. But on four occasions, three by India and one by Pakistan, the side bowling first have prevailed. The conundrum is do you trust in your batsmen to get a big enough target, or do you look to limit your opponents to something below 250, or much less ideally, and chase under the floodlights? For the record the successful chase totals are 120-2 (Pakistan against Hong Kong), 164-2 (India against Pakistan), 174-3 (India against Bangladesh) and 238-1 (India against Pakistan). When the sides met last Sunday in the group stages, Rohit Sharma won the toss and put Bangladesh in and their innings never recovered from losing early wickets. The toss will not decide the game. The players will do that. But the action in the middle at 3pm will define how the action unfolds. We are less then three hours away from the start of the final. It is fair to say Bangladesh have got better as the tournament have gone on. But having beaten Afghanistan on Sunday and Pakistan on Wednesday to set up the final with India, Mushfiqur Rahim is confident his side can raise their game even further to win the title.
