Eoin Morgan wants England to curb attacking instinct as Chris Gayle says he may have played final ODI in West Indies

Reining in their "natural" attacking instincts when required can help England's batsmen adapt better to different wickets, the team's one-day international captain Eoin Morgan has said.

England's batting line-up imploded on Saturday as the West Indies clinched a seven-wicket win in the fifth and final ODI in St Lucia to ensure the series ended drawn at 2-2.

The visitors, who lost the preceding Test series 2-1, suffered a batting collapse only three days after posting 418-6 against the same attack in their previous ODI and Morgan said his team had to quickly address the issue.

"It is quite difficult to curb what has been your natural reaction for the last couple of weeks. The honest answer is we need to get better at it," Morgan told Sky Sports.

"When we come up against different conditions it never is that easy for any side but you need to adapt on the day and find a way of scoring runs, occupying the crease and managing your innings better than we did.

"You have to rock up on any given day and be in a good enough head space to adapt to conditions."

Chris Gayle's explosive innings set the West Indies on their way to victory. The 39 year old smashed 77 off just 27 balls in what he conceded could be his final ODI on home soil after England had been skittled out for 113 in 28.1 overs, with Oshane Thomas doing most damage with five wickets.

"I thought about it walking round after the game, 'will this be my last innings in the Caribbean?' We'll have to wait and see for now," Gayle told Sky Sports after being named player of the series for his 424-run haul from the four completed matches.

"This will give us a big boost. It's been a great series and I'm happy we tied the series. Being in such terrific form is fantastic for me; I think it's my best ODI series stats-wise."

England next take on the West Indies in three Twenty20 internationals starting in St Lucia on Tuesday.
