Kings XI Punjab moved to the top of the Indian Premier League table following a four-run victory over Delhi Daredevils at Feroz Shah Kotla on Monday.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Punjab posted 143-8 in their 20 overs – a total widely deemed short of what was an average score for the wicket.
However, apart from a valiant half-century from Shreyas Iyer (57), Delhi’s batsmen collectively failed to chase down Punjab’s score.
The defeat was Delhi’s fifth from six games and keeps them rooted to the bottom of the eight-team table.
In the first innings, Australian batsman Aaron Finch (2) was the first wicket to fall for Punjab, off the bowling of Avesh Khan, before fellow opener Lokesh Rahul (23) followed in the fifth over, becoming the first of England bowler Liam Plunkett’s three wickets.
Plunkett then bowled Mayank Agarwal (21), before Khan claimed his second wicket as Yuvraj Singh (14) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
Karun Nair (34) top-scored for Punjab but fell to Plunkett at the start of the 17th over.
A brisk 26-run knock from David Miller helped Punjab toward a defendable total, but their progress was halted when New Zealand bowler Trent Boult removed both Ravichandran Ashwin (6) and Andrew Tye (3).
Delhi’s run chase got off to a difficult start when they lost three wickets inside the first six overs.
Prithvi Shaw (22) and Glenn Maxwell (12) were both removed by man-of-the-match Ankit Rajpoot before captain Gautam Gambhir (4) was dismissed by Tye.
Were it not for Iyer’s knock, the Delhi response may not have reached the final over, with Pant (4), Daniel Christian (6), and Plunkett (0) all failing to trouble the scorers much.
Rahul Tewatia (24) did provide some resistance from the Delhi lower-order. “When you lose three wickets in the first six overs, it’s always difficult,” Gambhir said.

Tuesday’s game sees Mumbai Indians host Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium.

Dubai works towards better air quality by 2021
Dubai is on a mission to record good air quality for 90 per cent of the year – up from 86 per cent annually today – by 2021.
The municipality plans to have seven mobile air-monitoring stations by 2020 to capture more accurate data in hourly and daily trends of pollution.
These will be on the Palm Jumeirah, Al Qusais, Muhaisnah, Rashidiyah, Al Wasl, Al Quoz and Dubai Investment Park.
“It will allow real-time responding for emergency cases,” said Khaldoon Al Daraji, first environment safety officer at the municipality.
“We’re in a good position except for the cases that are out of our hands, such as sandstorms.
“Sandstorms are our main concern because the UAE is just a receiver.
“The hotspots are Iran, Saudi Arabia and southern Iraq, but we’re working hard with the region to reduce the cycle of sandstorm generation.”
Mr Al Daraji said monitoring as it stood covered 47 per cent of Dubai.
There are 12 fixed stations in the emirate, but Dubai also receives information from monitors belonging to other entities.
“There are 25 stations in total,” Mr Al Daraji said.
“We added new technology and equipment used for the first time for the detection of heavy metals.
“A hundred parameters can be detected but we want to expand it to make sure that the data captured can allow a baseline study in some areas to ensure they are well positioned.”
What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.
Why are asylum seekers being housed in hotels?
The number of asylum applications in the UK has reached a new record high, driven by those illegally entering the country in small boats crossing the English Channel.
A total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025, the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001.
Asylum seekers and their families can be housed in temporary accommodation while their claim is assessed.
The Home Office provides the accommodation, meaning asylum seekers cannot choose where they live.
When there is not enough housing, the Home Office can move people to hotels or large sites like former military bases.

- Start with a simple recipe such as yogurt or sauerkraut
