India and South Africa will have history in their sights when they face off in the women's World Cup final on Sunday.
India reached the title match after a record-breaking win over serial champions Australia in the semi-final.
Jemimah Rodrigues hit an unbeaten 127 as the hosts chased down a record 339 in Navi Mumbai to oust the reigning seven-time champions .
India now face South Africa in the title match with both teams looking to win the one-day tournament for the first time in its 52-year history.
Players to watch
India will hoping for an encore from semi-final stars Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The two forged a tournament-defining 167-run partnership, with captain Harmanpreet making 89.
India will also be banking on star batter Smriti Mandhana who is the second-highest run getter of the tournament.
The Proteas will be playing at the venue for the first time. They too have enough firepower in their camp, led by captain Laura Wolvaardt who smashed 169 in the semi-final against England and leads the run scoring chart. Their star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp picked up 5-20 in a thumping 125-run win.
Prize money
The overall prize money for the 2025 women's World Cup is $13.88 million - a huge rise of 297 per cent from $3.5m at the last edition in 2022.
The total prize pot also eclipses that of the 2023 men’s ODI World Cup from two years ago in India, which stood at $10m.
Weather and conditions
The Navi Mumbai venue is expected to see temperatures of around 30° Celsius and a high humidity.
The pitch is one of the best batting surfaces in the competition with chasing favourable under lights owing to late evening dew. However, the pressure of a chase in a World Cup final is something else. The safer option could be to bat first, put up a good score and let the scoreboard pressure do most of the work.
