England suffered yet another injury setback on Monday with fast bowler Mark Wood ruled out of the third Test against India, which begins in Headingley on Wednesday.
Joe Root's team entered the five-match series against India without quicks Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes, while star all-rounder Ben Stokes has taken an indefinite break from cricket. Then, after the first Test, veteran seamer Stuart Broad was ruled out of the series due to a calf muscle injury.
And now, Wood has been sidelined after hurting his right shoulder while fielding in the Lord's second Test which Virat Kohli's team won in dramatic fashion in the final hour by 151 runs.
Wood hurt his shoulder on Day 4 but surprisingly continued to bowl as England pushed for victory. But not only did the hosts lose the Test, they lost their premier quick in the process and England's decision to bowl Wood on Day 5 has been met with criticism.
Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott, writing for The Daily Telegraph, said: “It was madness. Modern-day cricketers all dive athletically to save runs and the effort is commendable, but it is not worth the risk of injury to a leading bowler.”
Wood's injury could mean an opportunity for young fast bowler Saqib Mahmood, who came in as cover for Broad.
“He couldn’t be in a better place to potentially play Test cricket,” England captain Root said of Mahmood on Monday.
“He came out of the one-day series [against Pakistan in July] as probably the most experienced player and the go-to seamer we went to under pressure. It just shows how far he has come and it’s great to see that strength in depth.”
Given the precarious situation, veteran seam bowler James Anderson will have to carry the bowling burden once again, with Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran providing support.
Dawid Malan is expected to bat at No3 after being called up for the first time since 2018, when he played against India in the last of his 15 Tests. Since then, he has established himself as a star in white-ball cricket.
England go into the match against Virat Kohli's team bidding not only to level the series but also end a run of seven Tests without a victory.

- September 21 Anyone interested in becoming a certified yoga instructor can sign up for a 250-hour course in Yoga Teacher Training with Jacquelene Sadek. It begins on September 21 and will take place over the course of six weekends.
- October 18 to 21 International yoga instructor, Yogi Nora, will be visiting Bodytree and offering classes.
- October 26 to November 4 International pilates instructor Courtney Miller will be on hand at the studio, offering classes.
- November 9 Bodytree is hosting a party to celebrate turning 10, and everyone is invited. Expect a day full of free classes on the grounds of the studio.

Who are the Soroptimists?
The first Soroptimists club was founded in Oakland, California in 1921. The name comes from the Latin word soror which means sister, combined with optima, meaning the best.
The organisation said its name is best interpreted as ‘the best for women’.

How it works
Each player begins with one of the great empires of history, from Julius Caesar's Rome to Ramses of Egypt, spread over Europe and the Middle East.
Round by round, the player expands their empire. The more land they have, the more money they can take from their coffers for each go.
As unruled land and soldiers are acquired, players must feed them. When a player comes up against land held by another army, they can choose to battle for supremacy.
A dice-based battle system is used and players can get the edge on their enemy with by deploying a renowned hero on the battlefield.
Players that lose battles and land will find their coffers dwindle and troops go hungry. The end goal? Global domination of course.
