The bitter memory of a shock defeat at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi is motivating Oscar to ensure Chelsea make no mistake when they take the field today in their Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey in Yokohama.
The midfielder was part of the South America champion side Internacional, who were humbled 2-0 by TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the last-four stage of the competition in Abu Dhabi two years ago, and the loss is still a painful memory for the 21-year-old Brazilian.
They missed out on a final clash with Inter Milan, who would go on to win the tournament, and the midfielder lamented: "It was unbelievable at the time, and what made it worse was the fact that we knew we had the quality to win that game and then beat Inter, as our team was very strong.
"It really was a major disappointment.
"We were all surprised because we knew our team was superior to theirs."
Oscar, who joined Chelsea in the summer, said he was determined his current employers would not suffer the same fate as his Brazil side.
"I have learnt from past experience with Internacional that you have to take one game at a time," he said. "If we get to the final, which I hope we do, and have to face Corinthians, it will be great for me personally to play against a Brazilian side, but I will be doing my best to help Chelsea win the game."

Chris Greaves, the managing director of Hays Gulf Region, says those without a pay rise for an extended period must start asking questions – both of themselves and their employer.
“First, are they happy with that or do they want more?” he says. “Job-seeking is a time-consuming, frustrating and long-winded affair so are they prepared to put themselves through that rigmarole? Before they consider that, they must ask their employer what is happening.”
Most employees bring up pay rise queries at their annual performance appraisal and find out what the company has in store for them from a career perspective.
Those with no formal appraisal system, Mr Greaves says, should ask HR or their line manager for an assessment.
“You want to find out how they value your contribution and where your job could go,” he says. “You’ve got to be brave enough to ask some questions and if you don’t like the answers then you have to develop a strategy or change jobs if you are prepared to go through the job-seeking process.”
For those that do reach the salary negotiation with their current employer, Mr Greaves says there is no point in asking for less than 5 per cent.
“However, this can only really have any chance of success if you can identify where you add value to the business (preferably you can put a monetary value on it), or you can point to a sustained contribution above the call of duty or to other achievements you think your employer will value.”

The insured employee may still file an ILOE claim even if a labour dispute is ongoing post termination, but the insurer may suspend or reject payment, until the courts resolve the dispute, especially if the reason for termination is contested. The outcome of the labour court proceedings can directly affect eligibility.

Tailors and retailers miss out on back-to-school rush
Tailors and retailers across the city said it was an ominous start to what is usually a busy season for sales.
With many parents opting to continue home learning for their children, the usual rush to buy school uniforms was muted this year.
“So far we have taken about 70 to 80 orders for items like shirts and trousers,” said Vikram Attrai, manager at Stallion Bespoke Tailors in Dubai.
“Last year in the same period we had about 200 orders and lots of demand.
“We custom fit uniform pieces and use materials such as cotton, wool and cashmere.
“Depending on size, a white shirt with logo is priced at about Dh100 to Dh150 and shorts, trousers, skirts and dresses cost between Dh150 to Dh250 a piece.”
A spokesman for Threads, a uniform shop based in Times Square Centre Dubai, said customer footfall had slowed down dramatically over the past few months.
“Now parents have the option to keep children doing online learning they don’t need uniforms so it has quietened down.”
