Zenit and Bate
Andre Villas-Boas's Zenit St Petersburg side maintained their supremacy in Group H of the Uefa Champions League with a 2-0 victory at home against Valencia. The visitors were second in the group with six points before Lyon and Ghent were to play a high-profile match last night. Oleg Shatov put Zenit in front 15 minutes after the start, and Artem Dzyuba added to his assist for Shatov with a goal of his own in the 74th minute. Meanwhile in Group E, Barcelona qualified to the knockout stages after BATE Borisov were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayer Leverkusen in a bottom-of-the-table clash.
Manchester United
Manchester United will have captain Wayne Rooney, French teenager Anthony Martial and Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini available for tonight’s Uefa Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford. Rooney and Martial missed Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League win at Watford with illness and injury respectively, while Fellaini returns from a calf problem, but United will be without Phil Jones and Ander Herrer. Michael Carrick is still not fit, while Bastian Schweinsteiger, who forced the winning own-goal at Watford, did not train yesterday to give him extra recovery time, manager Louis Van Gaal said.

CSKA Moscow
CSKA Moscow must beat one of the best teams in the Bundesliga if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League, according to their coach Leonid Slutsky. The Russians welcome Wolfsburg to the Arena Khimki tonight, and Slutsky said CSKA can be counted in the same category as Bayern Munich. “We’ve studied them and it’s not going to be easy,” he told reporters. “They are one of the best teams in Germany.” Defeat in Group B tonight would not end Wolfsburg’s hopes of qualifying, but CSKA would be out of the running for a top-two finish if they were to lose.
Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid head into their final home Group C match tonight needing only to avoid defeat to seal their place in the knockout round. Diego Simeone’s side face a Galatasaray side out of sorts and without a real leader at the helm, after the Turkish team sacked manager Hamza Hamzaoglu last week. Galatasaray have announced Mustafa Denizli’s appointment to replace him, but it is thought he will not travel to Madrid for the pivotal Champions League clash, instead beginning his work with the Istanbul club afterwards.
Borussia M’gladbach
Borussia Monchengladbach have their sights on securing a place in the Europa League next year as they prepare to host Sevilla tonight in Group D. Borussia can no longer catch either Manchester City or Juventus in the group, meaning they are only playing for third place in their final two matches against Sevilla and City. A win over the Spaniards at home would lift them off the bottom and leave the destiny in their own hands, while it would also end Sevilla’s faint hopes of catching the top two. For Sevilla, victory would assure them of at least a place in the Europa League, the competition they have won the past two seasons.
