Baniyas 1 Al Shabab 1

Baniyas: Munoz 04'

Al Shabab: Bruno (pen) 59'

Red cards: Mohsin Al Hashmi (Baniyas); Hamdan Qasem (Al Shabab)

Man of the match: Sultan Musabah (Baniyas)

BANIYAS // The Baniyas coach Jorge Da Silva felt they were robbed of victory, while his Al Shabab counterpart Marcos Paqueta thought they missed out on an opportunity to win three points.

Edgar Bruno scored off a spot kick, but sent a second penalty wide for Shabab after Carlos Munoz gave the home side a fourth-minute lead in a 1-1 result last night at the Baniyas Stadium.

Mohsin Al Hashmi, the goalkeeper, was given the marching orders by the referee Fahad Banihammad for handling the ball outside the box but didn't award a penalty against the Shabab defender Mohammed Marzooq, despite the handball pleas by the Baniyas players.

“We suffered because of the referee's mistakes,” Da Silva said. “I don't think the goalkeeper deserved a red card because the ball deflected off the Shabab player, while a clear penalty wasn't awarded to us.

“Then in the very next move, the referee awarded a penalty for Shabab, but fortunately, they couldn't score from it.”

The draw means that Baniyas have picked up only three points from their last five games.

“The draw was the maximum we could have got when playing with one player less against a team like Shabab. So I am very pleased with the team's performance and the end result,” Da Silva said.

Paqueta singled out Sultan Musabah as the player who made all the difference on the night.

“He was outstanding and made some excellent saves. He was lucky, too, on the second spot kick,” the Brazilian said. “We had a good chance of winning the game, but missed a penalty and also created a lot of chances and couldn't score. These things happen in football and we must accept it as a fair result at the end.”

Munoz fired a spectacular goal to put the home side ahead in the fourth minute.

Luis Farina sent a high cross from the left flank for the Chile international to control with his chest, and he scored on a looping bicycle kick which the goalkeeper Ismail Rabee could only get his fingertips on.

Marcelo Pereira, the Brazilian forward, was pulled out for the substitute keeper Musabah, who did well to parry the ensuing free-kick from Carlos Villanueva and made some excellent saves for 10-man Baniyas to split the points.

The visitors pressed hard for the equalizer and were rewarded with a penalty, which Bruno converted with ease, following Musabah's foul on Rashid Hassan.

Shabab were awarded a second penalty when the Oman centre back Abdulsalam Al Mukhaini felled Adeilson Pereira and Bruno fired wide 12 minutes from time.

Shabab also ended with 10 players, when Hamdan Qasem was sent off for a second bookable offence in added time.

Emirates 1 Ajman 1

Emirates and Ajman finished all square at the Emirates Club Stadium last night.

The result means little changes in the lower reaches of the Arabian Gulf League table for either side, as Emirates now have 11 points and stay 11th, while Ajman move up to eight points.

Emirates, right, took the lead just before the half hour mark as Jair set up Brazilian striker Luiz Henrique to make it 1-0.

But Ajman hit back with an equaliser before half time, when Simon Feindouno continued his recent goalscoring form by hitting the leveller in the 38th minute, and the teams remained neck and neck at 1-1.
