Arabian Gulf League awards 2015/16 – The lowdown on UAE’s football honours

The 2015/16 Arabian Gulf League awards take place Saturday at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. John McAuley has the details.

What are the awards?

Under the patronage of Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the fourth edition of the awards marks the conclusion of the 2015/16 Arabian Gulf League (AGL) season. The draw for the 2016/17 campaign will also take place directly following the awards.

What’s the breakdown?

There are 11 categories: Emirati player of the year, foreign player of the year, coach of the year, goalkeeper of the year, Under-21 player of the year, best XI, AGL top scorer, Under-21 league top scorer, professional club of the year, fans’ player of the year and Fantasy Football manager of the year.

Who voted?

The nominations for categories to determine the best Emirati, foreign player, coach, goalkeeper and U21 player were voted by each club’s head coach, team captain and team manager, as well as selected journalists and media analysts. They ranked their top five for each award, with the top three in each making the final shortlist.

Who made the shortlist?

For instance, Majed Hassan (Al Ahli), Ali Mabkhout (Al Jazira) and Omar Abdulrahman (Al Ain) will battle it out for best Emirati, while Fabio de Lima (Al Wasl), Everton Ribeiro (Al Ahli) and Sebastian Tagliabue (Al Wahda) are in the running for best foreign player. Zlatko Dalic (Al Ain), Cosmin Olaroiu (Al Ahli) and Javier Aguirre (Al Wahda) contest coach of the year.

Who are the fans’ favourites?

The top 3 nominees for fans’ player of the year were voted by supporters via the Pro League Committee’s official social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - @AGLeague). They are Omar Abdulrahman, Fellipe Bastos (Al Ain) and Omar Khribin (Al Dhafra).

Tips for job-seekers
  • Do not submit your application through the Easy Apply button on LinkedIn. Employers receive between 600 and 800 replies for each job advert on the platform. If you are the right fit for a job, connect to a relevant person in the company on LinkedIn and send them a direct message.
  • Make sure you are an exact fit for the job advertised. If you are an HR manager with five years’ experience in retail and the job requires a similar candidate with five years’ experience in consumer, you should apply. But if you have no experience in HR, do not apply for the job.
