Al Wahda are back on the goal trail

Dubai 0 // Al Wahda 5

Al Wahda's scoring drought ended in a hail of goals as they overpowered Dubai 5-0 last night.

After three goals from four matches, Wahda became the first club to score five in a match this season. Fernando Baiano scored twice, the first on a blast from 26 metres in the eighth minute, as the defending champions scored 218 minutes after their previous goal, versus Kalba on September 1.

Baiano also scored in the 69th minute on a delicate chip over the goalkeeper.

He was joined in the scoring column by Hamdan al Kamali, Hugo and Fahed Masoud. The result marked the first victory and first goals for Wahda since the Brazilian coach Adenor "Tite" Leonardo Bacchi took control of the club. Wahda played scoreless matches in their previous two games.

Baiano, the big Brazilian forward, began the scoring spree with his heavy free kick in the opening minutes.

A shot clocked at 80kph bent around the Dubai wall and snuck inside the far post, beyond the reach of the diving goalkeeper Jamal al Hammadi.

Al Kamali, the young winger, doubled the advantage in the 18th minute when he headed in the ball at the end of a sequence that began with Ismail Matar's cross to Mohammed al Shehhi. Hugo banged in a goal from the edge of the box in the 39th minute, and the game effectively was over.

Dubai remain without a point, while Wahda moved closer to the top of the table, which includes rivals Al Jazira and Baniyas, who play in Abu Dhabi tonight.
