Flora Duffy made Olympic history on Tuesday, winning the women's triathlon in Tokyo to give the tiny island of Bermuda its first gold medal.
Duffy, 33, won in a time of 1:55.36 ahead of Britain's Georgia Taylor-Brown, with American Katie Zaferes taking the bronze.
Her success makes Bermuda the smallest nation in terms of population – about 70,000 – to win a medal at the Summer Games.
In a race delayed by 15 minutes because of slippery conditions after heavy rain overnight, Duffy took control in the final running section.
She opened up a lead of almost a minute after the first of four laps and was never under threat from then on.
Taylor-Brown had a flat rear tyre in the cycling section.
Bermuda's only previous Olympic medallist was boxer Clarence Hill in 1976.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
