Freed Palestinian detainees arrived in the occupied West Bank early this morning.

The move came hours after Hamas released three Israeli hostages from captivity in Gaza on Sunday as part of an initial list of 33 to be freed under the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The three female hostages released from Gaza on Sunday were reported to be in stable condition, said a doctor at the hospital in Israel where they were taken.

More than 230 Palestinian prisoners, who were sentenced to life imprisonment for attacks that killed Israelis, are slated to be released from Israeli prison as part of the swap under the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Israel has published a list of 734 prisoners, out of a total of 737 it has said would be released during the first phase of the ceasefire deal that started on Sunday.

More than 1,000 other Palestinians who were taken into Israeli custody since Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack that led to the war are also expected to be released during the initial 42-day truce.

Meanwhile, the UN's World Food Programme said on Sunday it was rushing to get food to as many Gazans as possible after border crossings reopened.

The WFP's deputy executive director Carl Skau said the agency is “trying to reach a million people within the shortest possible time”.
