Syria's interim government sent troops into a former Assad stronghold on Sunday, killing two people and arresting dozens more who are said to have been enforcers for the deposed regime.

A municipal worker told The National that the HTS raid was on Al Fukani village near the provincial capital of Homs and that dozens of young men were detained.

Damascus International Airport will resume international flights from January 7.

They were suspended at the airport following the collapse of the government on December 8.

Space42, the Abu Dhabi-based Space technology company, launched its Thuraya 4 telecoms satellite into orbit.

The satellite was aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. Space42 said it will take several months until Thuraya 4 reaches its operational geostationary orbit, about 36,000 kilometres above Earth.

The satellite will provide mobile communications services throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
