Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the US and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, has died at the age of 100. Mr Carter’s presidency began in 1977 after he defeated incumbent Gerald Ford in the November election.
He was praised for negotiating a breakthrough peace deal between Egypt and Israel in 1978, a piece of hard-won diplomacy that alone deserved the Nobel Prize in the eyes of many. His later years were marked by a dedication to charitable, humanitarian and mental health causes.
Three convoys carrying Emirati humanitarian aid crossed into Gaza to support the Palestinian people as winter grips the strip. The convoys comprised 28 lorries loaded with more than 445 tonnes of aid.
Syria could take up to four years to hold elections after the fall of former president Bashar Al Assad's regime, according to Ahmad Al Shara, leader of Hayat Tahrir Al Sham.
He said in an interview broadcast by Al Arabiya on Sunday that preparing a new constitution might take about three years, before elections could be held.
It was Mr Al Shara's first comment on a potential timeline for elections since the removal of Mr Al Assad on December 8.
