The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces have launched a counter-offensive against the Ankara-backed Syrian National Army to take back areas near the northern border with Turkey, a representative said on Tuesday.
The SDF is a US ally in preventing a resurgence of ISIS in Syria, targeting sleeper cells of the extremist group scattered across the country's east.
A US non-profit on Tuesday said that it believed Syrian-American bishop Yohanna Ibrahim, missing in Syria since 2013, was being held by the former authorities under ousted president Bashar Al Assad.
The group Hostage Aid Worldwide said Mr Ibrahim is a US citizen who "was seen in 2018 in Branch 291" of the security forces. The senior Aleppo cleric of the Syriac Orthodox Church was kidnapped in April 2013.
Injuries were reported in Israel on Wednesday morning after a missile was launched from Yemen towards Tel Aviv, Israeli officials said. The Israeli army said it intercepted an incoming missile.
At least nine people were injured as they rushed towards shelters, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.
It is the latest in recent crossfire and interception by Houthi and Israeli troops.

Tax authority targets shisha levy evasion
The Federal Tax Authority will track shisha imports with electronic markers to protect customers and ensure levies have been paid.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, director of the tax authority, on Sunday said the move is to "prevent tax evasion and support the authority’s tax collection efforts".
The scheme’s first phase, which came into effect on 1st January, 2019, covers all types of imported and domestically produced and distributed cigarettes. As of May 1, importing any type of cigarettes without the digital marks will be prohibited.
He said the latest phase will see imported and locally produced shisha tobacco tracked by the final quarter of this year.
"The FTA also maintains ongoing communication with concerned companies, to help them adapt their systems to meet our requirements and coordinate between all parties involved," he said.
As with cigarettes, shisha was hit with a 100 per cent tax in October 2017, though manufacturers and cafes absorbed some of the costs to prevent prices doubling.

Family reunited
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was born and raised in Tehran and studied English literature before working as a translator in the relief effort for the Japanese International Co-operation Agency in 2003.
She moved to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies before moving to the World Health Organisation as a communications officer.
She came to the UK in 2007 after securing a scholarship at London Metropolitan University to study a master's in communication management and met her future husband through mutual friends a month later.
The couple were married in August 2009 in Winchester and their daughter was born in June 2014.
