Gaza is often referred to as the world’s largest open-air prison.
Under occupation by Israel, half of the 2.3 million residents are unemployed.
Leaders from Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas recently met in Egypt seeking to end the divide that has plagued Gaza since the latter group took control in 2007.
While these meetings do take place every now and then, the internal turmoil seen in Palestine, coupled with the rarity of the protests in Gaza, has made many stop and think.

Iran has sent five planeloads of food to Qatar, which is suffering shortages amid a regional blockade.
A number of nations, including Iran's major rival Saudi Arabia, last week cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of funding terrorism, charges it denies.
The land border with Saudi Arabia, through which 40% of Qatar's food comes, has been closed.
Meanwhile, mediators Kuwait said that Qatar was ready to listen to the "qualms" of its neighbours.
