A popular refrain in most family homes where adolescents dwell used to be: “Turn that music down!” But in this, as in so many other aspects of life, technology has reshaped everything by changing the blaring hi-fi of yesterday to the ubiquitous use of headphones today. This revolution began 35 years ago when Sony introduced the Walkman, so that you could play music without imposing your taste on the person next to you.
But silence is not always golden. As The National reported yesterday, headphones are often turned up to dangerous levels especially by young people, risking permanent hearing loss.
While households may be quieter for now, that potential ear damage may come back to haunt headphone-wearing youngsters. When today’s teenagers become parents themselves in a few years time, they may end up shouting at their own offspring to “Turn the music up! I can’t hear a thing.”
Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

A cheaper choice
Vanuatu: $130,000
