The article Shocking level of school fee defaults among Pakistani expats in UAE (May 31) is obviously about one particular community school, but I haven't come across any nationality that told me their school fees were affordable.
The average fee in any school is Dh70,000 a year. Not everyone is earning Dh100,000 a month or gets school fees from their companies.
I hope the authorities do something about this. School should be a right, not a privilege.

Unsubstantiated claim on Obama
I refer to Tony Karon's opinion article It's all about the economy and it's not good news (May 31). This is bad, from the apparent total lack of interviews or reporting to the idea that there wasn't any Keynesian economic policy under Barack Obama, when the benchmark rates have been near zero for almost his entire presidency and there was at one point $80 billion worth of bond buying a month.

Noise pollution is an issue in Dubai too (Noisy neighbourhoods disturb UAE residents, May 29).
In posh areas, it’s the inconsiderate drivers who create a nuisance by holding down their car horns at 3am and revving up the engines of their sports cars or bikes.

Aim to bridge the cultural gap
Regarding the news item No handshake exemption for Muslim pupils, Swiss canton rules (May 26), some people just like to create distance and hate among cultures and religious groups. Daughters of many of my Muslim friends are happy to greet me despite my being male and non-Muslim.

Make the city more walkable
In reference to your story How walkability is taking strides in the UAE (May 29), I suggest canopies be put over shopfronts so there is continuous shade along the pavement.
The authorities could also consider installing machines every 200 to 300 metres during the summer that would spray cooling mists. The machines would discharge enough mist for cooling without people getting wet.

Arab Mall needs some outlets
It would have been useful if Arab Mall in Al Taawun in Sharjah had an outlet such as a supermarket, as well as some fast food restaurants and cinemas.

The rules on fostering in the UAE
A foster couple or family must:
- be Muslim, Emirati and be residing in the UAE
- not be younger than 25 years old
- not have been convicted of offences or crimes involving moral turpitude
- be free of infectious diseases or psychological and mental disorders
- have the ability to support its members and the foster child financially
- undertake to treat and raise the child in a proper manner and take care of his or her health and well-being
- A single, divorced or widowed Muslim Emirati female, residing in the UAE may apply to foster a child if she is at least 30 years old and able to support the child financially

What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can lead to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis or liver cancer.
There are 5 main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E.
Hepatitis C is mostly transmitted through exposure to infective blood. This can occur through blood transfusions, contaminated injections during medical procedures, and through injecting drugs. Sexual transmission is also possible, but is much less common.
People infected with hepatitis C experience few or no symptoms, meaning they can live with the virus for years without being diagnosed. This delay in treatment can increase the risk of significant liver damage.
There are an estimated 170 million carriers of Hepatitis C around the world.
The virus causes approximately 399,000 fatalities each year worldwide, according to WHO.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
