I write in reference to your article Narendra Modi Picks Nirmala Sitharaman to steer India's faltering economy (May 31). This was an excellent piece. Narendra Modi has not only introduced a number of new faces but has also changed some portfolios of Indian cabinet of ministers. In my view this is very laudable. New portfolios handed to Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh make real sense for India's economic development path. The dramatic rise of Nirmala Sitharaman from defence to finance shows the confidence bestowed on her by Mr Modi.
All three have portfolios that come with great power and responsibility. This BJP cabinet will deliver on the promises made before and during the election by Mr Modi and will fight corruption, which is necessary. In this way, it will make India not only proud but also prosperous. Congratulations to Mr Modi and his team for securing a second term.

Fortune favours the careful and considered
I write in reference to Rashemee Roshan Lall's opinion piece Does the 'greatness and genius of America' still stand? (May 30). The wheel of fortune must constantly turn. Fate gives us all an equal chance. Some grab it with respect and last a long time, while others trapeze on it like US President Donald Trump, and fail to keep hold. Ms Roshan Lall is right to point out that China is a dynamic nation that can spring plenty of surprises.

No mercy for those who betray their birthplace
I write in reference to your online article Removing Shamima Begum's citizenship was politically driven, say family (May 31). Anyone who betrays their country deserves nothing but contempt. If you step out of the safety of your borders in this way, you should not expect anyone to rescue you or to come to your assistance, particularly if you have joined a terrorist organisation.

Enabling the Houthis is a very dangerous game
I write in reference to your article Yemen government: UN gave vehicles to group with Houthi links (May 30). Giving ammunition and vehicles to the Houthis is a dreadful idea. A full inquiry must be ordered to ensure that UN aid and supplies goes into the proper hands and not to bandits.
