I refer to the report India abolishes special status for Kashmir (August 5).
The media is flooded with reports on India’s surprise move to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution, which grants Kashmir a special status.
Public officials, politicians and influential media figures are scrambling to clarify their position or make sense of the latest developments, creating even more confusion.
I think the move should focus on helping develop the region. If Kashmir loses its special status, it is only fair that the region should enjoy the same privileges as other states and union territories.
Why is the infrastructure in Kashmir derelict? Why do Kashmiri youngsters suffer from a lack of access to proper education?
Decades of insurgency led by separatist militants have had a serious impact on the region and it is always common people who are made to pay the price of armed conflict.
If article 370 of the Constitution conferring special status to Jammu and Kashmir is to be altered, the federal government must take up its responsibility towards Kashmiris who have been marginalised. The government should treat all Indians as equals, irrespective of caste, religion and region of origin.

I write to you in reference to you article Snap with caution - Dubai Police issue new warning to beachgoers (August 4).
Why only warn beachgoers? I personally run several small businesses around Abu Dhabi and it drives me mad that people take photographs and videos of my display, featuring my shop attendant and myself, without bothering to ask for our consent.
Whenever I point out that I am uncomfortable with this, the person will simply say “Oh, but I’m only going to publish this on Instagram/Snapchat”.
Do they expect us to be grateful? Shopkeepers have a right to protect their privacy too.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
