With regards to Greta Thunberg's speech to Davos in full: 'Our house is still on fire' (January 21): It's a sad time for humanity when despite the fires, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and typhoons, we focus on a girl who speaks the conscience of the planet.
We all write speeches with help from speechwriters, but the words and the sentiments are often those of the person who speaks them.
I think everyone who wants to dismiss Ms Thunberg, all those who want to propagate stupid conspiracy theories about her are slightly missing the point.

It is unpleasant to hear the truth. But after a while we all will understand that she was right.

She is a true leader, unlike many others who choose to do nothing and ignore the situation.

Priyanka Chopra could do with taking a closer look at India
With regards to Priyanka Chopra's talk at Davos about wealth and poverty "living together in a symbiotic way": she was clearly wearing an eye mask for the predominant years of her life.
There is nothing symbiotic between the poor and the rich in India. Perhaps no where else in the world does one see as much disparity between the rich and the poor as one does in India.

The reason why those tomatoes are so perfectly ripe and shiny
With reference to Daniel Sanderson's article UAE firm 'to grow a tonne of tomatoes a day' in the desert (January 14): this is popular in other parts of the world. I would love to do something of this kind.
Samith Kumar, Dubai
Farms use ethanol to ripen your tomatoes. It’s about mass production.
Shauna Marie, Abu Dhabi
I’m loving this. Great news after a few weeks of really depressing news.

Despite the rough start, India’s cricket win was a thrill for fans
In reference to Gareth Cox's piece In pictures: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli guide India to ODI series victory over Australia (January 20): the perspective on India's recent victory was timely. Bengalureans witnessed wonderful cricket on the 19th at our famous Chinnaswamy Stadium. Even though the start was not favourable, the victory against Australia was amazing. Congratulations to Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and the entire team.
