Good morning from Abu Dhabi. Hamas said yesterday it was reviewing the new proposals for a Gaza ceasefire deal it received from mediators. The group remains adamant that it wants a deal that ends the war and ensures Israel's withdrawal.
While US President Donald Trump has said Israel accepted the conditions to finalise the 60-day truce, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday called for the elimination of Hamas. Mr Netanyahu is set to meet Mr Trump in Washington next week and may seek to seal the deal before another meeting becomes overshadowed by the war in Gaza. A truce would give the Israeli prime minister a stronger bargaining chip in any concessions he may seek from the US - particularly when it comes to Iran at a critical time.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian yesterday approved a law to suspend Tehran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency after US and Israeli strikes hit its facilities last month. This would further limit the ability of external inspectors to track Iran's nuclear programme and uranium enrichment, placing the US and Israel in the dark.
