The US will provide “life-saving” aid to the southern Syrian province of Sweida, following violent clashes between the Druze and Bedouin communities, the State Department announced on Monday.
The assistance comes as part of efforts to restore stability to the region.
“This assistance will support life-saving needs of approximately 60,000 people through targeted provision of food, water and hygiene items, as well as the rehabilitation of houses and water systems for when people can safely return home,” the State Department said.
Sectarian clashes between Druze and Bedouin groups raged for days in Sweida in July, killing hundreds from both sides.
Israel, which is home to a sizeable Druze community, launched a series of air attacks on Syria it said was aimed at protecting the minority. However, diplomats and analysts have said the Druze goal is to weaken Syria's authorities.
The State Department said Christian communities had also been affected by violence and noted that although hostilities have largely subsided, the security situation remains unpredictable.
“This has resulted in limited movement of supplies that has affected civilian safety and the ability of the approximately 187,000 displaced individuals to return to their homes,” a statement read.
“The provision of food and safe water supplies will help address critical needs for families displaced in emergency shelters and within host communities, as well as those unable to access goods due to the ongoing disruption to supply deliveries that support stores and markets.”
The US called on other countries to also contribute assistance for the people of Syria.

Tip: Set realistic goals. Be happy with what you have earned, rather than frustrated by what you could have earned.
Frustration
Traders can get annoyed when the markets have behaved in unexpected ways and generates losses or fails to deliver anticipated gains.
Tip: Accept in advance that asset price movements are completely unpredictable and you will suffer losses at some point. These can be managed, say, by attaching stops and limits to your trades.
Boredom
Too many investors buy and sell because they want something to do. They are trading as entertainment, rather than in the hope of making money. As well as making bad decisions, the extra dealing charges eat into returns.
