Live updates: Follow the latest on Israel-Gaza
Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris answered pro-Palestine protesters with comments on a Gaza ceasefire at a 2024 election rally in Arizona, saying "now is the time" to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas.
“I have been clear: now is the time to get a ceasefire deal and get the hostage deal done," the US Vice President said.
Reports said that a small group of demonstrators were shouting “Free, free, free Palestine" when Ms Harris started speaking to the crowd estimated at more than 15,000 supporters on Friday evening.
She paused her remarks and pointed in the direction of the chants, saying she wanted to address them.
"The president and I are working around the clock every day to get that ceasefire deal done and bring the hostages home," Ms Harris said, with supporters cheering in response.
"So, I respect your voices, but we are here to now talk about the race in 2024."
Ms Harris has faced anger from liberal voters who disagree with her and President Joe Biden's support for Israel in its war in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led October 7 attack that cost the lives of 1,200 people.
More than 39,790 people have been killed in Israeli military operations conducted in Gaza, according to health officials in the Palestinian enclave, while humanitarian crises expand.
Inheriting Mr Biden's campaign after he ended his re-election bid in July, Ms Harris has now taken on the liability in her hopes for an electoral win in the November 5 vote.
Her comments were a change in tone for Ms Harris, who shut down pro-Palestine protesters earlier in the week.
On Wednesday, she responded differently when demonstrators interrupted her Detroit-area rally in Michigan, chanting "Kamala, Kamala you can’t hide, we won’t vote for genocide".
Ms Harris first talked over the protesters. As the demonstrators continued, she shut them down and accused them as being supporters of the Republican candidate Donald Trump.
"If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I'm speaking," she said.
While Ms Harris' response on Friday was a change in tone, it was not a change in policy for the Biden administration.
Leaders of the "uncommitted" voter movement – consisting of Democratic voters who are trying to change US policy by threatening their votes – briefly met with Ms Harris earlier in the week.
They claimed that Ms Harris was willing to meet with them about their arguments for an arms embargo on Israel.
Her national security adviser Phil Gordon publicly stated on X that she would "continue to work to protect civilians in Gaza and to uphold international humanitarian law" but not support an arms embargo on Israel.
"The Vice President has been clear: she will always ensure Israel is able to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist groups," he wrote.
The US has continued to supply Israel of weapons and security assistance despite international court investigations into human rights abuses.
On Friday, the State Department supplied Israel with $3.5 billion to spend on weapons and military equipment.

Safety 'top priority' for rival hyperloop company
The chief operating officer of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, Andres de Leon, said his company's hyperloop technology is “ready” and safe.
He said the company prioritised safety throughout its development and, last year, Munich Re, one of the world's largest reinsurance companies, announced it was ready to insure their technology.
“Our levitation, propulsion, and vacuum technology have all been developed [...] over several decades and have been deployed and tested at full scale,” he said in a statement to The National.
“Only once the system has been certified and approved will it move people,” he said.
HyperloopTT has begun designing and engineering processes for its Abu Dhabi projects and hopes to break ground soon.
With no delivery date yet announced, Mr de Leon said timelines had to be considered carefully, as government approval, permits, and regulations could create necessary delays.

The five types of long-term residential visas
Obed Suhail of ServiceMarket, an online home services marketplace, outlines the five types of long-term residential visas:
Investors:
A 10-year residency visa can be obtained by investors who invest Dh10 million, out of which 60 per cent should not be in real estate. It can be a public investment through a deposit or in a business. Those who invest Dh5 million or more in property are eligible for a five-year residency visa. The invested amount should be completely owned by the investors, not loaned, and retained for at least three years.
Entrepreneurs:
A five-year multiple entry visa is available to entrepreneurs with a previous project worth Dh0.5m or those with the approval of an accredited business incubator in the UAE.
Specialists
Expats with specialised talents, including doctors, specialists, scientists, inventors, and creative individuals working in the field of culture and art are eligible for a 10-year visa, given that they have a valid employment contract in one of these fields in the country.
Outstanding students:
A five-year visa will be granted to outstanding students who have a grade of 95 per cent or higher in a secondary school, or those who graduate with a GPA of 3.75 from a university.
Retirees:
Expats who are at least 55 years old can obtain a five-year retirement visa if they invest Dh2m in property, have savings of Dh1m or more, or have a monthly income of at least Dh20,000.

2 To date, the only two players to win the PGA Championship after winning the week before are Rory McIlroy (2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational) and Tiger Woods (2007, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational). Hideki Matsuyama or Chris Stroud could have made it three.
3 Number of seasons without a major for McIlroy, who finished in a tie for 22nd.
4 Louis Oosthuizen has now finished second in all four of the game's major championships.
5 In the fifth hole of the final round, McIlroy holed his longest putt of the week - from 16ft 8in - for birdie.
6 For the sixth successive year, play was disrupted by bad weather with a delay of one hour and 43 minutes on Friday.
7 Seven under par (64) was the best round of the week, shot by Matsuyama and Francesco Molinari on Day 2.
8 Number of shots taken by Jason Day on the 18th hole in round three after a risky recovery shot backfired.

12 Paul Casey was a combined 12 under par for his first round in this year's majors.
13 The average world ranking of the last 13 PGA winners before this week was 25. Kevin Kisner began the week ranked 25th.

15 Of the top 15 players after 54 holes, only Oosthuizen had previously won a major.
16 The par-four 16th marks the start of Quail Hollow's so-called "Green Mile" of finishing holes, some of the toughest in golf.
17 The first round scoring average of the last 17 major champions was 67.2. Kisner and Thorbjorn Olesen shot 67 on day one at Quail Hollow.
