Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasised the urgent need for an end to the deadly civil war in Sudan during a phone call on Friday.

They said that it is vital to deliver crucial humanitarian aid to millions of civilians caught in the conflict that began in April, 2023.

A statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Sheikh Abdullah “welcomed the statements of US President Donald Trump's calling for and end to the horrific atrocities committed against civilians during the civil war”.

Mr Trump said on Wednesday that he would work to help bring an end to the war in Sudan, and called on regional countries to help in that endeavour.

Sheikh Abdullah also stressed in his call to Mr Rubio the importance of working to support Mr Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, in a way that leads to security, stability, and sustainable prosperity in the region.

Sheikh Abdullah and Mr Rubio also reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries and ways to enhance joint co-operation across all sectors.

The UAE statement said Sheikh Abdullah “was keen to initiate” the phone call with Mr Rubio to express sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr Trump for the recent White House decision allowing the export of advanced artificial intelligence semiconductors to the UAE's G42 Group.

He said the decision reflected the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries.
