Emirati in hospital after gas leak causes house fire in Sharjah

An Emirati man is being treated for burns after a fire caused by a gas leak at a house in the Khorfakkan area of Sharjah on Thursday.

Firefighters responded to the blaze, with the 52-year-old being transferred to hospital for urgent treatment.

Civil Defence received a call at 6am from a family member reporting a loud noise and flames inside their home.

Preliminary investigations by fire experts suggested the blaze was caused by a minor gas leak from emissions in the home’s internal sewage system, which ignited before spreading to other parts of the property.

Colonel Waleed Al Yamahi, director of the Eastern Region Police Department, urged residents to conduct regular inspections and maintenance of their sewage systems to ensure their safety.

He also advised homeowners and tenants to strictly follow precautionary measures when dealing with flammable gases.
