The UAE has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's latest settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and the continuation of large-scale military operations in Gaza, warning that such actions threaten peace, stability, and humanitarian conditions across the region.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official social media channels, the UAE reiterated that these practices constitute “grave violations” of international law and contravene relevant United Nations resolutions. It said the move “severely undermines” regional and international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace and establish an independent Palestinian state.
The E1 settlement to the east of Jerusalem would effectively cut the West Bank in a way that would make communication internally impossible.
The ministry also warned of the catastrophic consequences of continued aggression, including the escalating humanitarian suffering and the threat posed to regional security and stability.
The UAE reiterated its calls for an immediate halt to Israeli settlement expansion and military operations in Gaza.
It also urged the international community to fulfil its responsibilities in stopping violations, preventing further deterioration on the ground, and reviving a credible political process.
The condemnation comes amid heightened tension as humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned of worsening conditions in Gaza, where infrastructure has been damaged beyond repair, civilians continue to face shortages of food, medicine and shelter because of an Israeli blockade and military operations.
State of famine
On Friday, the UN declared a famine in Gaza after months of Israeli restrictions that cut off food and water supplies to more than two million people.
The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs announced famine in Gaza city, the enclave’s capital and largest urban centre.
The UN report said the famine would extend to Deir Al Balah in the centre of Gaza and Khan Younis in the south by the end of next month. Malnutrition had already affected more than 132,000 children under the age of five as of June, including 41,000 severe cases, it said.
