President Sheikh Mohamed in call for peace with Turkey's Erdogan

President Sheikh Mohamed joined Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a call for regional peace during a state visit to Turkey.

Sheikh Mohamed was received by Mr Erdogan at Turkey’s Presidential Palace and an official reception hosted in his honour, state news agency Wam reported.

Here, the two men discussed ways to develop co-operation between the two countries in the framework of their comprehensive economic partnership.

Mr Erdogan welcomed the visit, stressing that it constitutes a strong impetus for relations between the two countries at all levels.

The two sides also reviewed the progress achieved by the two countries in their relations across all fields, especially in the economy, trade, technology, industry, renewable energy, and food security.

In addition, they addressed a number of regional and international issues, most notably the latest developments in the Middle East.

Both sides said their commitment to supporting efforts to advance regional peace constitutes the main foundation for development in the region.

They also stressed the need to adopt dialogue and diplomatic solutions to address the various crises facing the region and the world.

Reflecting on the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed wrote on X: “The UAE and Turkey share a vision of strengthening regional peace and stability through diplomacy, and we remain committed to working together to achieve lasting development and prosperity for the region’s peoples.”

Earlier, flanked by Turkish cavalry on arrival, Sheikh Mohamed was given a guard of honour and the national anthems of both countries were played. He also exchanged greetings with senior Turkish ministers and officials.

He had been met by Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, at Esenboga International Airport.

Sheikh Mohamed's visit follows a phone call between the two on Sunday. They discussed their countries' commitment to promoting security and stability and pledged to work together to pursue a path to peace in the Middle East.

The talks come as the ceasefire between Iran and Israel remains firm and the international community hopes for a similar truce to end violence in Gaza.

Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Erdogan called for an end to hostilities after the Iran-Israel conflict last month.
