Live updates: World Governments Summit in Dubai

American broadcaster and journalist Tucker Carlson will make his second appearance in Dubai in as many months this week.

The former Fox News presenter will be in conversation with Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, and economist and analyst Jeffrey Sachs at the Museum of the Future on Thursday, in an event organised in partnership with the World Governments Summit (WGS).

Carlson took part in the 1 Billion Followers Summit in Dubai in January, when he said US President Donald Trump would focus on "positive change" in his second term in the White House and praised billionaire businessman Elon Musk's influence on US society.

Speaking to The National at the summit, Carlson said he looked forward to Mr Trump's return to power.

"Trump, I mean, I think a lot could happen, a lot of really good things. If there was ever a time for positive change, it's now, and I'm hoping for it, of course."

In a separate speech at the event, where content creators and social media figures gathered, Carlson said that the US takes pride in the free speech accorded to its citizens by the Constitution.

He said that in the US "the citizen has a right to say what he thinks" and Mr Musk created the space for that when he bought social media platform X, formerly Twitter, which was founded in 2006.

Carlson was also a speaker at last year's WGS, when he was fresh from a high-profile interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He denied claims he went to Moscow to promote Mr Putin, stating he went because he wanted to allow people to receive information about what was happening in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In an interview on The Tucker Carlson Show in August 2023, Mr Orban said that the only way to end the Russia-Ukraine war was to call back Mr Trump to be US President again.

"Call back Trump, that's the only way out. The best foreign policy of the recent several decades belong to him," he said.

With Mr Trump reinstated for his second US presidency in January, their conversation may be heading in that direction.

Carlson also interviewed Prof Sachs on his show in an episode titled Jeffrey Sachs: The Untold History of the Cold War, CIA Coups Around the World, and Covid’s Origin.

Carlson is also set to host a session at the World Governments Summit on Thursday with Ray Dalio, founder of asset management company Bridgewater Associates.
