Rain fell across parts of Abu Dhabi and Dubai on Wednesday morning as the country gears up for more unsettled conditions and a drop in temperatures during the winter season.
Residents woke up to leaden skies with showers reported over Dubai International Airport, Al Rashidiya and the Dubai stretch of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road shortly after 7am by the National Centre of Meteorology. Further rainfall was recorded in the capital in the morning.
Storm Centre, a popular social media account tracking UAE weather, shared videos of dark clouds looming over Dubai's landmark Burj Al Arab and of drizzly conditions in the emirate.
The bout of wet weather comes after heavy rain swept across the Abu Dhabi desert on Thursday. Video showed a road flooded after downpours in Al Dhafra region.
In its latest five-day bulletin, the NCM said fog is expected to persist until Sunday, with more light rainfall expected on Sunday.
The arrival of the UAE's winter season – which typically begins in December – has coincided with a dip in temperatures which will continue in the days ahead.
The NCM's online weather map indicates peak daytime temperatures in Dubai will range from 23ºC to 26ºC over the next five days, with the mercury to hover between 24ºC and 25ºC in Abu Dhabi.
Evening temperatures will remain below 20ºC in both cities until at least Sunday, reaching a low of 16ºC in Dubai on Friday.
