Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, held talks with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Tuesday, during his official visit to Singapore.
The leaders were on hand as a host of agreements in artificial intelligence, education and renewable energy were made to strengthen co-operation between the countries.
They also held high-level talks at the Singapore Parliament House aimed at cementing long-standing ties. During the meeting, Sheikh Khaled reaffirmed the importance of promoting UAE-Singapore collaboration, with a focus on advanced technology, clean energy and urban planning.
Sheikh Khaled wrote a message in the guestbook at the Parliament House, stating: “Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with His Excellency Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, where we discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
“We look forward to deepening our collaboration and strategic partnerships across various vital sectors to meet the aspirations of our people.”
Sheikh Khaled also toured the Marina Barrage and was briefed on its critical role in water flow management and flood prevention. The visit also encompassed an overview of Singapore’s initiatives in water optimisation, waste recycling, and the development of artificial islands.
He later visited one of Singapore's most popular attractions, Gardens by the Bay, and commended the government for integrating urban and economic development with expanded green spaces. “It embodies Singapore’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. We look forward to enhancing UAE-Singapore co-operation in sustainability and eco-friendly infrastructure, towards reaching new heights of partnership,” Sheikh Khaled wrote in a message in the guestbook.
Warm welcome
Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince received an official reception ceremony at Singapore's Parliament House featuring a guard of honour and the playing of the national anthems of both countries.
The Crown Prince's delegation includes Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Khaldoon Al Mubarak, chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; Faisal Al Bannai, Adviser to the UAE President and Jamal Al Suwaidi, UAE ambassador to Singapore.

- Abu Dhabi's Department of Government Enablement and the National University of Singapore will work together on AI initiatives, including the exchange of knowledge and expertise
- The two departments will also collaborate on teaching and research and will develop executive education programmes for Abu Dhabi government officials and employees
- The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and Singapore’s Energy Markets Authority signed an agreement to enhance co-operation over nuclear energy
- The Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) will strengthen partnerships with Singapore’s National Institute of Education in education and research and will promote the exchange of expertise and innovative teaching methods
Sheikh Khaled later toured GlobalFoundries, a leading semiconductor manufacturing company based in the South-East Asian country, majority owned by Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company.
Mubadala first invested in the company in 2009 and has played a key growth in its growth in the semiconductor sector in the years since. GlobalFoundries operates in Asia, Europe and the US, developing technology helping to power billions of electronic devices.
Sheikh Khaled's Singapore visit is his latest overseas engagement since he was named Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in March last year.
Earlier this month, Sheikh Khaled travelled to Norway on another official visit. He held talks with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and explored ways to advance co-operation across new, developing and high-growth sectors.
On October 1, Sheikh Khaled concluded an official visit to Qatar and discussed ways to enhance ties across strategic sectors during his talks with Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar. He also met Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and highlighted the importance of deepening collaboration in several areas.
Last month, Sheikh Khaled completed an official visit to India and witnessed the signing of partnerships between UAE and Indian bodies that extended the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement established in May 2022.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Three-day coronation
Royal purification
The entire coronation ceremony extends over three days from May 4-6, but Saturday is the one to watch. At the time of 10:09am the royal purification ceremony begins. Wearing a white robe, the king will enter a pavilion at the Grand Palace, where he will be doused in sacred water from five rivers and four ponds in Thailand. In the distant past water was collected from specific rivers in India, reflecting the influential blend of Hindu and Buddhist cosmology on the coronation. Hindu Brahmins and the country's most senior Buddhist monks will be present. Coronation practices can be traced back thousands of years to ancient India.
The crown
Not long after royal purification rites, the king proceeds to the Baisal Daksin Throne Hall where he receives sacred water from eight directions. Symbolically that means he has received legitimacy from all directions of the kingdom. He ascends the Bhadrapitha Throne, where in regal robes he sits under a Nine-Tiered Umbrella of State. Brahmins will hand the monarch the royal regalia, including a wooden sceptre inlaid with gold, a precious stone-encrusted sword believed to have been found in a lake in northern Cambodia, slippers, and a whisk made from yak's hair.
The Great Crown of Victory is the centrepiece. Tiered, gold and weighing 7.3 kilograms, it has a diamond from India at the top. Vajiralongkorn will personally place the crown on his own head and then issues his first royal command.
The audience
On Saturday afternoon, the newly-crowned king is set to grant a "grand audience" to members of the royal family, the privy council, the cabinet and senior officials. Two hours later the king will visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the most sacred space in Thailand, which on normal days is thronged with tourists. He then symbolically moves into the Royal Residence.
The procession
The main element of Sunday's ceremonies, streets across Bangkok's historic heart have been blocked off in preparation for this moment. The king will sit on a royal palanquin carried by soldiers dressed in colourful traditional garb. A 21-gun salute will start the procession. Some 200,000 people are expected to line the seven-kilometre route around the city.
Meet the people
On the last day of the ceremony Rama X will appear on the balcony of Suddhaisavarya Prasad Hall in the Grand Palace at 4:30pm "to receive the good wishes of the people". An hour later, diplomats will be given an audience at the Grand Palace. This is the only time during the ceremony that representatives of foreign governments will greet the king.
What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.

Tightening the screw on rogue recruiters
The UAE overhauled the procedure to recruit housemaids and domestic workers with a law in 2017 to protect low-income labour from being exploited.
Only recruitment companies authorised by the government are permitted as part of Tadbeer, a network of labour ministry-regulated centres.
A contract must be drawn up for domestic workers, the wages and job offer clearly stating the nature of work.
The contract stating the wages, work entailed and accommodation must be sent to the employee in their home country before they depart for the UAE.
The contract will be signed by the employer and employee when the domestic worker arrives in the UAE.
Only recruitment agencies registered with the ministry can undertake recruitment and employment applications for domestic workers.
Penalties for illegal recruitment in the UAE include fines of up to Dh100,000 and imprisonment
But agents not authorised by the government sidestep the law by illegally getting women into the country on visit visas.

Bee venom is used by bees to protect themselves. Has anti-inflammatory properties, sometimes used to relieve conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, nerve and muscle pain

Is beekeeping dangerous?
As long as you deal with bees gently, you will be safe, says Mohammed Al Najeh, who has worked with bees since he was a boy.
“The biggest mistake people make is they panic when they see a bee. They are small but smart creatures. If you move your hand quickly to hit the bees, this is an aggressive action and bees will defend themselves. They can sense the adrenalin in our body. But if we are calm, they are move away.”
