Dubai's Burj Khalifa lit up in the colours of the flags of Pakistan and India this week, to honour the countries as they marked their independence days.
Many residents captured the special moments, which took place a day apart, on social media. Pakistan marked its independence day on August 14, while Indian independence day was celebrated the following day.
President Sheikh Mohamed sent messages of congratulations to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday to mark the country's 77th independence day. Sheikh Mohamed also sent India's President Droupadi Murmu his best wishes to mark India's independence day.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, sent similar messages to the Pakistani and Indian leaders.
“As Pakistan continues its journey towards progress and stability, the UAE reiterates its steadfast commitment to strengthening our collaboration, exploring new opportunities for growth, and working together to build a future of prosperity and success," Sheikh Mohammed wrote on X. “Happy Independence Day to our Pakistani friends.”
In another post on X, Sheikh Mohammed said: “UAE remains dedicated to reinforcing our friendship, advancing our bilateral co-operation, and fostering strong bonds across all facets of our enduring partnership. Wishing our Indian friends a joyous Independence Day.”

His life in brief: Born in a village near Galilee, he lived in exile for most of his life and started writing poetry after high school. He was arrested several times by Israel for what were deemed to be inciteful poems. Most of his work focused on the love and yearning for his homeland, and he was regarded the Palestinian poet of resistance. Over the course of his life, he published more than 30 poetry collections and books of prose, with his work translated into more than 20 languages. Many of his poems were set to music by Arab composers, most significantly Marcel Khalife. Darwish died on August 9, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery in the United States. He was later buried in Ramallah where a shrine was erected in his honour.

Ziina users will be able to use the app to help relief efforts in Beirut, which has been left reeling after an August blast caused an estimated $15 billion in damage and left thousands homeless. Ziina has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to raise money for the Lebanese capital, co-founder Faisal Toukan says. “As of October 1, the UNHCR has the first certified badge on Ziina and is automatically part of user's top friends' list during this campaign.
