Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs, were on Thursday sworn in for new high-ranking ministerial positions before President Sheikh Mohamed.
Sheikh Hamdan was named Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, while Sheikh Abdullah was also confirmed as Deputy Prime Minister in a UAE Cabinet reshuffle announced on Sunday.
They took their oath along with other newly appointed ministers at the ceremony at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, in which Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, were also present.
The strengthened UAE Cabinet now features five Deputy Prime Ministers. Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Abdullah will serve in the role alongside Sheikh Mansour, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, also Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, also Minister of Finance.
Ahmed Al Falasi, Minister of Sports; Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education; Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Alia Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, were also formally installed in their new roles.
Sheikh Mohamed wished the new ministers well in their mission to support the nation's development and cultivate a "knowledge-based economy".
“Our unwavering approach in the UAE is to continuously develop and improve in order to build upon our achievements," Sheikh Mohamed said.
"To serve the interests of current and future generations we must keep pace with global best practices, especially in the areas of education, science and technology.
“Improving the education system in the UAE is the only way to achieve our ambitious goals of a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.
"This will be possible through intensified efforts and innovative ideas."
The head of state was joined by Sheikh Mohammed in delivering a message of support to the country's new-look Cabinet.
“Modernisation has always been an inherent aspect of the UAE government’s approach," the Dubai Ruler said.
"There is no limit to our ambitions in serving our nation and our people. The UAE continues to lead as we rely on our human capital to lead the next phase of comprehensive, sustainable development."
Latest cabinet shake-up
The wave of ministerial appointments on Sunday are in line with the UAE's efforts to harness the abilities of its top talent to drive progress.
In January, Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi was named Minister of State for Youth Affairs as part of another reshuffle.
Mariam Al Mheiri left her role as Minister of Environment and Climate Change to take on the position as Head of the International Affairs Office in the Presidential Court at the same time.
She was succeeded by Dr Amna Al Shamsi as part of the ministerial restructure.
Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, assumed an expanded role as for Deputy Prime Minister for Financial and Economic Affairs in the January reshuffle, while Mohammed Al Mazrouei was appointed Minister of State for Defence Affairs.

Who is Tim-Berners Lee?
Sir Tim Berners-Lee was born in London in a household of mathematicians and computer scientists. Both his mother, Mary Lee, and father, Conway, were early computer scientists who worked on the Ferranti 1 - the world's first commercially-available, general purpose digital computer.
