Queen Rania of Jordan met the incoming first lady, Melania Trump, in Florida on Thursday during a visit to the US, the third meeting between the pair in recent years.
The queen posted a photo on social media of the two seated together at a table. The meeting took place in Palm Beach, with the two women discussing various issues of mutual interest including children’s welfare and improving education, according to the queen's official website. It was their third meeting to take place in the US, the statement added.
"It was a pleasure reconnecting with incoming US first lady Melania Trump in Florida yesterday," the queen wrote on her Instagram account on Friday. The two women previously appeared together in 2018 during a visit to the White House made by Queen Rania and her husband, Jordan's King Abdullah.
In 2017 they paid a visit together to Excel Academy - a school for girls in Washington. They joined a listening session with students and a seventh-grade art class.
The queen has said education and children are a top priority in the advocacy work she has pursued. She has launched the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development, the Queen Rania Teacher Academy and the Jordan River Foundation, which focuses on child safety and community empowerment.
She has amassed millions of followers on social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook, often posting messages related to her causes. The latest meeting between the queen and Ms Trump comes days before Melania's husband, president-elect Donald Trump, takes office in the US.

Conflict, drought, famine
Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.
Band Aid
Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.
