French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin left the UAE on Tuesday after discussing ways to strengthen the fight against organised crime with Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
The visit comes as France and the UAE increase their security and judicial co-operation. Sheikh Saif and Mr Darmanin also spoke about ways to bolster collaboration in the judicial, security and policing fields, state news agency Wam reported.
The meeting was attended by Maj Gen Khalifa Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Maj Gen Ahmed Al Muhairi, commander-in-chief of Abu Dhabi Police, and Maj Gen Sheikh Mohammed bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, director general of Abu Dhabi Police, and other officials.
Also in attendance were Nicolas Niemtchinow, France's ambassador to the UAE, Gilles Friedman, internal security attache at the French embassy, and Philippe Salomon, liaison judge at the diplomatic mission, and other French officials.
Mr Darmanin's last official visit to the UAE was in October 2023, under his previous mandate as Interior Minister. At the time, he took part in a meeting at the International Security Alliance, a UAE-led international collaboration of interior ministries that aims to fight transnational crime.

- Jim Polehinke was the co-pilot and sole survivor of a 2006 Comair flight that crashed in Lexington, Kentucky, killing 49.

What is hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, which can lead to fibrosis (scarring), cirrhosis or liver cancer.
There are 5 main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E.
Hepatitis C is mostly transmitted through exposure to infective blood. This can occur through blood transfusions, contaminated injections during medical procedures, and through injecting drugs. Sexual transmission is also possible, but is much less common.
People infected with hepatitis C experience few or no symptoms, meaning they can live with the virus for years without being diagnosed. This delay in treatment can increase the risk of significant liver damage.
There are an estimated 170 million carriers of Hepatitis C around the world.
The virus causes approximately 399,000 fatalities each year worldwide, according to WHO.

Dr Amal Khalid Alias revealed a recent case of a woman with daughters, who specifically wanted a boy.
A semen analysis of the father showed abnormal sperm so the couple required IVF.
Out of 21 eggs collected, six were unused leaving 15 suitable for IVF.
A specific procedure was used, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection where a single sperm cell is inserted into the egg.
On day three of the process, 14 embryos were biopsied for gender selection.
The next day, a pre-implantation genetic report revealed four normal male embryos, three female and seven abnormal samples.
Day five of the treatment saw two male embryos transferred to the patient.
The woman recorded a positive pregnancy test two weeks later.
