Prince Harry has penned a stirring tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, as he and wife Meghan Markle launched the website of their non-profit organisation, Archewell.
On the homepage of archewell.com, which was unveiled on Thursday, December 31, a photograph of the British royal with his mother features prominently. It is accompanied by a photograph of the Duchess of Sussex as a young girl with her mother, Doria Ragland.
The website is the online arm of the Archewell Foundation, the non-profit founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last year.
In a mission statement shared on the site, Prince Harry states: "I am my mother’s son."
The pledge, titled 'a letter for 2021', continues: "And I am our son’s mother. Together we bring you Archewell."
"We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity. We have experienced compassion and kindness, from our mothers and strangers alike," the Sussexes write.
In the face of fear, struggle and pain, it can be easy to lose sight of this. Together, we can choose courage, healing, and connection. Together, we can choose to put compassion in action."
The organisation comprises three strands according to the website: Archewell Foundation, Archewell Audio and Archewell Productions.
The couple released their first podcast on Spotify last week as part of Archewell Audio, after inking a rumoured $40 million deal with the streaming giant.
The royals chatted to a host of stars, including Elton John, James Corden, and Deepak Chopra, in the 30-minute podcast, which also featured a brief cameo from their 1-year-old son, Archie.
"Archewell Audio will produce programming that uplifts and entertains audiences around the world ... and spotlight diverse perspectives and voices," the non-profit's site states.
Archewell Production, meanwhile, will "produce programming that informs, elevates and inspires" as part of an exclusive multi-year production deal with Netflix, announced in September.
At the time, the streaming platform said the couple had several projects in development, including a nature documentary series and an animated series that celebrates inspiring women.
The Archewell Foundation will support communities and charitable initiatives, with current projects and partnerships including World Central Kitchen, a NGO started by celebrity chef Jose Andres, the Centre for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, and The Loveland Foundation, which provides affordable mental health resources to black women.
"We believe that compassion is the defining cultural force of the 21st century, and through the work of our (non-profit), we support a growing community of partner organisations fuelling systemic cultural change," the Sussexes' website adds.
Prince Harry and Meghan first announced they would be launching the foundation in April, after formally stepping down as senior members of the British royal family in March.
