Dame Joan Collins said she was "delighted" to receive the Covid-19 vaccination this week.

The actress and author, 87, received the AstraZeneca vaccine at a surgery in London on Saturday, on the same day as Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

Collins is among the first to receive the coronavirus jab created at England's prestigious Oxford University, as they were initially administered in the UK on Tuesday.

She announced her decision in a post on Instagram, which went out to her 235,000 followers.

The Dynasty star wrote in the caption that she was "delighted" to be getting the vaccination, and thanked NHS doctors for what she described as a "painless and seamless" procedure.

Collins has joined a growing list of celebrities who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Last month, Lord of the Rings actor Sir Ian McKellen was feeling "euphoric" after receiving the Pfizer vaccine.

"It's a very special day, I feel euphoric,” said the Oscar nominee, 81.

"Anyone who has lived as long as I have is alive because they have had previous vaccinations. The take-up amongst the older generation will be 100 per cent – it ought to be – because you're having it not just for yourself but for people who you are close to. You're doing your bit for society," said McKellen.

The stage and screen veteran also described the vaccine as "painless".

Other famous names to have received their jab in the UK include South African restaurateur and The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, 80, rock and roll veteran Marty Wilde, 81, and Australian performer Barry Humphries, 86.

Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, also received the first dose of the vaccine on Saturday.

Pharaoh's curse

British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon, who funded the expedition to find the Tutankhamun tomb, died in a Cairo hotel four months after the crypt was opened.
He had been in poor health for many years after a car crash, and a mosquito bite made worse by a shaving cut led to blood poisoning and pneumonia.
Reports at the time said Lord Carnarvon suffered from “pain as the inflammation affected the nasal passages and eyes”.
Decades later, scientists contended he had died of aspergillosis after inhaling spores of the fungus aspergillus in the tomb, which can lie dormant for months. The fact several others who entered were also found dead withiin a short time led to the myth of the curse.
