As tourists returned to Dubai on Tuesday, they were welcomed with a message on one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, incorporated a new greeting into its light show on July 7, the day international visitors were able to return to the emirate.
The words “welcome to Dubai" were illuminated on the building in Downtown Dubai.
The message was also displayed in Arabic.
After being closed to travellers since March, Dubai this week reopened its borders to foreign visitors.
The occasion was marked at Dubai International Airport with tourists being given a special sticker upon arrival.
A stamp reading “a warm welcome to your second home” was stuck on passports by immigration officials at the airport.
The initiative by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs is designed to make travellers and returning residents feel welcome in the UAE.
As Dubai airports reopen, hotels and tourist attractions in the emirate are also looking forward to welcoming visitors back again.
Among them is Burj Khalifa, which reopened its observation deck at the end of May.
To monitor the number of visitors to the landmark, there is currently only one ticket type available, the Dh99 admission option, which allows access to the 124th and 125th floors.
Guests are expected to wear face masks and follow Dubai Municipality’s social distancing regulations.
The attraction's sky-high restaurant, Atmosphere, also reopened on July 2.
The restaurant and lounge had been closed for about three months, and is now offering all of its usual services, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

4. The biggest black holes lurk at the centre of many galaxies, including our own
5. Astronomers believe that when the universe was very young, black holes affected how galaxies formed

How Islam's view of posthumous transplant surgery changed
Transplants from the deceased have been carried out in hospitals across the globe for decades, but in some countries in the Middle East, including the UAE, the practise was banned until relatively recently.
Opinion has been divided as to whether organ donations from a deceased person is permissible in Islam.
The body is viewed as sacred, during and after death, thus prohibiting cremation and tattoos.
One school of thought viewed the removal of organs after death as equally impermissible.
That view has largely changed, and among scholars and indeed many in society, to be seen as permissible to save another life.
