Emirates will fly its superjumbo to Bahrain to celebrate the kingdom's 49th National Day.
The Dubai airline will operate the one-off A380 flight to Bahrain on Tuesday, December 15. Emirates says it is due to higher passenger demand during the upcoming national day, which is on Wednesday, December 16.
Flight EK839 will depart Dubai International Airport just after 4pm on Tuesday. The one-and-a-half hour flight will then operate as EK840 from Bahrain to Dubai, landing in the UAE at 8pm. Economy class fares for the flight start from Dh810, one-way.
Is Bahrain open for travellers?
Passengers flying into Bahrain must take a Covid-19 test on arrival. Travellers must then self-isolate until they receive their negative results. Anyone staying in Bahrain for more than 10 days will need to take a second test. Children under 6 do not need to be tested.
Travellers flying to Dubai from Bahrain have the option to take a complimentary Covid-19 PCR test on arrival, or they can opt to take the test up to 96 hours before their flight departure time.
Emirates has been flying to neighbouring Bahrain for more than 20 years and has transported more than six million passengers between the two destinations. During this time, the airline has deployed its A380 on only six occasions. These flights were plying during busy Eid travel periods, on Bahrain's National Day in 2017, and as part of the Bahrain air show.
After temporarily halting many of its signature A380 services due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Emirates recently reinstated most of its luxury offerings, including the on-board lounge and in-flight shower spa. New safety measures have been introduced to the services to help ensure passenger safety.
Where does the Emirates A380 fly to?
Emirates is slowly resuming its passenger network around the world, including on its A380 jumbo jets. The double-decker aircraft currently flies to Cairo, Amman, Paris, London, Guangzhou, Manchester and Moscow. It has also been used as a mini-freighter on some cargo charter operations across Emirates' network.
As the world's biggest customer of the Airbus A380, the Dubai airline welcomed its 116th double-decker on December 4 and has two more A380s scheduled for delivery later this month, one of which will be fitted with the airline's long-awaited premium economy offering.

Gender equality in the workplace still 200 years away
It will take centuries to achieve gender parity in workplaces around the globe, according to a December report from the World Economic Forum.
The WEF study said there had been some improvements in wage equality in 2018 compared to 2017, when the global gender gap widened for the first time in a decade.
But it warned that these were offset by declining representation of women in politics, coupled with greater inequality in their access to health and education.
At current rates, the global gender gap across a range of areas will not close for another 108 years, while it is expected to take 202 years to close the workplace gap, WEF found.
The Geneva-based organisation's annual report tracked disparities between the sexes in 149 countries across four areas: education, health, economic opportunity and political empowerment.
After years of advances in education, health and political representation, women registered setbacks in all three areas this year, WEF said.
Only in the area of economic opportunity did the gender gap narrow somewhat, although there is not much to celebrate, with the global wage gap narrowing to nearly 51 per cent.
And the number of women in leadership roles has risen to 34 per cent globally, WEF said.
At the same time, the report showed there are now proportionately fewer women than men participating in the workforce, suggesting that automation is having a disproportionate impact on jobs traditionally performed by women.
And women are significantly under-represented in growing areas of employment that require science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills, WEF said.

Towering concerns
It's up to you to go green
Nils El Accad, chief executive and owner of Organic Foods and Café, says going green is about “lifestyle and attitude” rather than a “money change”; people need to plan ahead to fill water bottles in advance and take their own bags to the supermarket, he says.
“People always want someone else to do the work; it doesn’t work like that,” he adds. “The first step: you have to consciously make that decision and change.”
When he gets a takeaway, says Mr El Accad, he takes his own glass jars instead of accepting disposable aluminium containers, paper napkins and plastic tubs, cutlery and bags from restaurants.
He also plants his own crops and herbs at home and at the Sheikh Zayed store, from basil and rosemary to beans, squashes and papayas. “If you’re going to water anything, better it be tomatoes and cucumbers, something edible, than grass,” he says.
“All this throwaway plastic - cups, bottles, forks - has to go first,” says Mr El Accad, who has banned all disposable straws, whether plastic or even paper, from the café chain.
One of the latest changes he has implemented at his stores is to offer refills of liquid laundry detergent, to save plastic. The two brands Organic Foods stocks, Organic Larder and Sonnett, are both “triple-certified - you could eat the product”.
The Organic Larder detergent will soon be delivered in 200-litre metal oil drums before being decanted into 20-litre containers in-store.
Customers can refill their bottles at least 30 times before they start to degrade, he says. Organic Larder costs Dh35.75 for one litre and Dh62 for 2.75 litres and refills will cost 15 to 20 per cent less, Mr El Accad says.
But while there are savings to be had, going green tends to come with upfront costs and extra work and planning. Are we ready to refill bottles rather than throw them away? “You have to change,” says Mr El Accad. “I can only make it available.”
