Egypt to require air passengers aged over 6 to show negative Covid-19 test from September

Egypt has announced new air travel restrictions that will require all incoming passengers older than 6 to produce a negative PCR test to confirm they are coronavirus free.

The new measures will come into force from Tuesday, September 1, and will require a PCR test to have been conducted within 72 hours of arrival in the country.

The measures have been introduced by Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority and will be mandatory for all passengers, including Egyptian citizens.

The measures will apply to all carriers operating routes into the country, and will be enforced at airports.

Similar measures were introduced in the country earlier this month, however, negative tests were only required for non-Egyptian passengers. Under the new regulations, only children under the age of 6 will be exempt.

The new rules form part of Egypt’s ongoing measures to combat the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

Figures from the country’s Ministry of Health and Population show that, to date, there have been 97,478 recorded cases, and 5,280 deaths. Between March 25 and June 27, Egypt had imposed a nationwide curfew to stem the spread of the virus in the country.
