April showers: Snowfall makes Japan's cherry blossom season even more picturesque

The trees' famous pink petals were this week blanketed in snowflakes

In one of the earliest starts to the cherry blossom season, some unusual weather occurred in Japan, with late-March snowfall taking place. The normally pink petals, as well as the streets (including the trees), were covered in a blanket of snow, making for a picturesque backdrop.

But most people weren't actually out to witness the event. As more countries take precautionary measures to stop the coronavirus from spreading, more people are forced to stay at home.

However, while you may have missed seeing the cherry blossoms bloom live, you can still view their beauty in our gallery.
